There were 4 of us staying at Thorney How.
Nice place overall, decent food, clean rooms, quiet area. However, the service is absolutely awful.
Aside from the fact that after you've paid for your accommodation you are required to leave the property between 10.30am and 3pm, our stay within the allowed hours was rather unpleasant.
There are certain hidden and tricky rules. The first one that we have encountered was with the "flask service". When we asked for our flasks to be filled with water, we were notified about £3 charge per flask plus £1 per tea bag (it was the next day that we've found out about a kitchen with an absolutely free kettle to use for all guests).
The second "favour" was when we sat in the lounge after the bar closure with our own bottled drinks. The owner has rather rudely instructed us to leave the premises to consume our alcohol outside (we nearly finished our single and only beer bottle per person), so we sat outside in the dark on the benches. Few minutes later he returned to further send us away elaborating on the fact that we are still on his premises. The deal was that we can stand on the edge of the fence ensuring we are not crossing his territory. It was pitch black outside on the county lanes.
Being a guest who wouldn't normally complain about such things, this kind of service puts anyone off from coming back to a place that doesn't value their customers.
