Lovely hotel right by the Douro in the tiny village of Tua. We had a view of the river from our window. The room was relatively small, but fine for our 2 night stay. The public rooms inside the building are beautiful, and the high-ceiling breakfast room is delightful.
The owners and staff are lovely people - they made us feel welcome, and were very friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Also used the pool - reasonable size, very clean, with sunbeds all around.
It's fair to say Tua is isolated by car but the train station is almost opposite. We drove to Pinhao for a 2-hour boat cruise on the Douro to Tua (though does not dock there). Really recommend that cruise. Later, we took the train from Tua to Pocinho - again excellent. The Valeira dam is interesting if you catch one of the big river cruise boats using the lock.
We recommend the Tua Mercearia tapas bar behind the station - delicious.
