Unforgettable hotel! From the moment you get to the gate it feels like a fairy tail with so much character, arts, history- just such a unique experience. Great service, good breakfast, spacious rooms.
Although not in the center of historical Salzburg, so car is needed. Getting around on foot with 2 kids was challenging... Big room, good enough for family of 4.
Take at least half of day to enjoy the walks around the buildings, near the lake and in the palace - it makes all the difference.The views at the frozen lake, and everything covered in snow is just breathtaking.
We really enjoyed our stay, it was the highlight of the vacation.

Beautiful setting with stunning views and a lovely breakfast venue, but the main hotel was disappointing. Our room was far from the lobby, along a worn, outdated carpeted path, and lacked basic amenities like toiletries and slippers (which I had to request). Breakfast was the highlight, and the restaurant staff were professional and friendly.

Enjoyed my stay grounds are beautiful. I didn’t stay in the palace but in the building next store. My room was a basic single room. It was comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay again. The area and palace is beautiful and the breakfast in the palace was the best I have had at a hotel. Staff was nice and professional. The young lady who checked me out was especially helpful and nice.

Lovely main house which you’re free to visit at your leisure. Great breakfast & grounds are breathtaking! Free bikes worth using to visit lake & surrounding area.
Hotel also gives vouchers for use in next door swimming pools & other facilities ( these close in Sept) which is an idyllic area fabulous for families

Wonderful opportunity to stay at a palace, famous in the movie, Sound of Music. Grounds and paksce are spectacular, and the buffet breakfast on the terrece overlooking the lake was a wonderful scenic opportunity with the mountain rages in the background.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this hotel, and we love the peaceful location by the water and it being the “back of the house” in Sound a Music. It now has a bar in it too! It’s 1-2 miles to old town, but we didn’t mind a walk or uber. Would definitely stay again!

Friendly and helpful front desk and breakfast staff! Room is much better than I remember from ten years ago, 5 star now. Booked this to be able to have the special ‘Sound of Music’ movie connection.
As a note, contrary to what I had read on another website … the temporary S. of M. museum (that is opening in 2026 at ‘Hellbrunn ‘) artifacts are NOT located at the ‘Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron’.
