North Gyeongsang Province in eastern South Korea was formed in 1896 and today offers many historical sites, Buddhist temples, stunning landscapes, family fun and outdoor adventures. At Bulguksa and Seokguram Grotto, you can see historic temples with stunning architecture and elegant landscapes. Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond allow you to see a palace from the 7th century built on a serene small body of water. Cheomseongdae offers the historic ruins of a 7th-century observatory, while Cheonmachong is a 5th- to 6th-century ancient tomb.
For living history, you can visit Andong Hahoe Folk Village or Yangdong Folk Village. Outdoor adventures abound here, and you can hike, cycle and get photos in places like Juwangsan National Park with its limestone peaks, gorges and waterfalls, or Gayasan National Park with its soaring mountain and stunning panoramic views. If you want a bit of modern fun, Gyeongju World is an amusement park with thrill rides, games and seasonal attractions.
