Likes: Exceptional location to explore downtown Charleston without a car. Walking distance to some terrific restaurants & bars such as Peninsula Grill, Le Farfalle, Charleston Place Hotel and more. Front desk & valet staff are very engaging and supportive. The valet text link shows the time it's taking to deliver your car - and it's a pretty short time.
Dislikes: mold in the shower (we had 2 rooms, both showers were moldy) which is descriptive of pretty much every Marriott property I've visited over the past year (10 properties). A single (disappointing) restaurant/bar - especially compared to Charleston Place or Planters Inn hotels, each with outstanding restaurant & bar choices.
Be aware - downtown Charleston hotels are not known for views. If you stay at the Renaissance, request a room facing the front entry.
I rate this 3 overall, because it's a pricey stay, around $500/night for room fees parking. We didn't experience any services that distinguished the property from a Courtyard, other than location. For $500/night, it's average in my opinion.
