This is my second time staying at Paniolo Greens. Overall, it is a fairly decent stay and one of the more bang-for-your-buck places on the northwestern side of Hawai'i Island. Each suite is super spacious, easily fitting a family of 4 and more. The bedding is really comfortable. The view out onto the golf course in the morning is very picturesque and having breakfast outside on the balcony is lovely. Lots of birds around.
The downsides: The property is on the older side and it shows in the interior design which feels outdated. The staff generally do a good job of keeping the place clean. However, for my specific stay, the amenities in my suite were not fully stocked upon check-in so I had to contact housekeeping (almost entirely out of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, coffee filters, etc.). There aren't a lot of food options nearby but there is a KTA grocery store down the street, and there is a new shopping plaza being built nearby which will eventually add more dining options. Beach items are available for rent at the front desk (costs about $5/day per item).
In closing, the place is pretty no-frills but it's spacious, clean, and a good home base for a Big Island trip. I do plan to come here again in the future since it's good value.
FYI - if you arrive at night after the front desk is closed, there is a phone outside the office you can use to call the security personnel who will assist you with checking in.
