My family routinely stays at the Altamonte Springs Hilton because my son’s family lives there. On 2 of our visits, the hotel has had a problem with a mildew smell. Out in the hall on the 3rd floor right by the broken ice-maker the mildew smell is especially strong. When we arrived at the hotel Saturday afternoon, there was a group of 4 boys tossing a football in the hall in the presence of the hotel staff. My wife and I are senior citizens and were worried that we might get hurt. When we got off the elevator on the 3rd floor, three boys were hitting one another with the bolsters from the two sofas across from the elevator. I asked the boys to put the bolsters back on the sofas and to go find their parents. They did as I asked and then informed me that their father was sitting nearby talking on his cell phone in full view of his sons. I apologized to the father for correcting his sons, and he replied, “No problem Pops.”
I brought my concerns to the attention of the operations manager Sunday morning. He acted like he was unaware of the mildew smell and told me that he would look into the problem right away. He did not explain why the ice machine has been broken for months. He told me that the group which included the young boys who were playing ball in the hallways was going to be fined.
We have liked staying at this hotel in the past, but after our most recent stay, we plan to find a different hotel the next time we visit our son.
