In general hotel is quite nice and in a very good location and walkable distance to all hot springs and other sites of the Carlsbad.
Hotel condition is average, some refreshments on common spaces would be nice to see.
We booked Deluxe Twin room. Unfortunately such a small bathroom we haven't seen still in lower star rating hotels. As well hand soap was missing and sink was not in good visual condition (visible quite large scratches). As well some shelves in the room haven't been cleaned for some time (visible dust).
Bed was comfortable and room decoration quite interesting and make some kind of home atmosphere.
Breakfast is good, just space in breakfast room is limited and sometimes you need to wait a bit to get a table.
We have used SPA, but at the moment there are just 2 out of 4 saunas in operation. Average size pool is available.
To sum-up, for this price we would expect better service and conditions. But probably this is because just because of the location...
