Disappointing
The hotel needs major renovations. Both my husband and I have allergies and on entering could immediately smell a musty smell. The heating was completely inadequate. There was none in the exercise room. Staff put a tiny space heater in the exercise room so that we could exercise. The restaurant was cold. Wifi was inadequate for normal use in 2017/18.

Great For Annual Girls Trip
Second time at the Gideon Putnam this year. So festive for the holidays and in a great location, close to the center of town and the SPA! We'll be back for a third time in 2018 for sure.

No heating system in room. Space heater. !
They claimed I booked 2 rooms through Expedia. I did not. I booked on with hotels.com. I told them put me in whichever cost $189 since that's what I booked and I showed confirmation. Email. Clerk said she couldn't see what I paid or to who. It was so stupid. I called hotels and they in error booked 2 rooms and fixed it. My room had a space heater !!?? Really no heat system ? !!??

Beautiful and bouncy
This is an old remarkable hotel, in a fantastic, tranquil location. It has the potential to be one of the best hotels in New York state; but is let-down in areas. The positives first: the location, access and amenities are excellent and its very easy to negotiate your way around Saratoga and scenic routes. Easy to park and check-in was very easy. The highlight was the staff, very friendly and approachable throughout, one of the best experiences I've ever noticed - Well done! I really should have complained about the room, as this and the look of the hotel (mainly accommodation areas) let the experience down a fair bit. I decided to go all out and book a suite, but it didn't feel plush and I didn't feel special. There were no significant extras other than a swarm of stink bugs and lady bugs in the room and Ice-Room. The bed, which for some reason only had one night-stand?!? was too small, too bouncy and as soon as one person moves, it wakes up the other. We didn't sleep well on it for the 2 nights, which defeats the purpose of staying in a hotel (and paying for a room, let alone one of the best). We did eat there (room service) and the food was good, the water in the room was from Saratoga spa, but $6 a bottle, when you can just walk to the nearby springs and get it for free, really Putnam? I can recommend staying for a short period, but I plead for the hotel owners to update this tired gem, only then will I return.
