The Normandy Hotel

We have stayed at the Normandy several times over the years, finding it to be convenient, reasonably priced, and comfortable (if not fancy). This year, however, we were concerned about the upkeep of the hotel. The draw shade was broken in our room and although we reported it, there was not effort to fix it during our 6-day stay. The single elevator was slow and seemed less reliable than in past years. I believe that the hotel is under new management in the last year or so, which may explain some of our disappointment with this year's visit.

The room was beautiful, and the location was excellent. The parking is very expensive, and one night, they forgot to bring our car around after we called.

Our one-night visit was enjoyable. The room was very clean and well appointed. The bed was really comfortable. And the location was ideal for our quick stay in DC. Highly recommend.

The hotel is good if you pay about $100 a night, anything higher feels like a bit of ripoff. Everything is quite old, the doors are flimsy. The bed was comfortable enough. One of the cards we got for the door didn’t work, then after cleaning we were for some reason left with just one towel, had to go ask for a replacement. One of the pillows smelled quite strange. Room service came at 8 am one of the mornings waking us up, not sure why that would be necessary. The coffee was undrinkable. Another annoying thing is that they actually charge $4 per piece of luggage if you ask them to keep it even for an hour after 12 noon. Totally ridiculous. Not sure I’d give the hotel 3 stars in general. And again, if it was around $100, maybe $130 a night, would be great, but in work days the hotel can be 200-300, and it lacks quality and service.
