So first off, let me explain my ratings. When we arrived to check in for the room we had booked more than a month ago, we were informed that the hotel was closed and our reservations were canceled due to a water line break. We were told that there were two other hotels within 5-7 minutes of us that had availability. When we found another hotel at 10:30 PM, we discovered that the rates were much higher because it was NASCAR Weekend, KU vs. TCU at Arrowhead, and there was a large concert along with Family Weekend for the University of Kansas. We ended up staying at the Courtyard by Marriott down the road, where the staff informed us they knew the water line had been broken for a full week and that the hotel had been closed all week. Additionally, they didn’t inform us of this in advance, nor did they offer to help us find other accommodations. They simply said it was an unfortunate situation and there was nothing they could do.
Here’s the kicker: We called at 11 AM on the morning of our arrival and asked about check-in time mentioning we had a reservation for that day. They said nothing about the hotel being closed; they only stated that check-in was from 4 PM to midnight. What a joke! We also paid in advance and were informed that we should be reimbursed within 4-5 business days, but since we booked through a third party, Expedia, it may take longer.
