Learn more about Cascade Locks

Gazing across the Columbia River from the Bridge of the Gods offers a panorama that explains why this gorge inspires such devotion. The Pacific Crest Trail passes right through town, making this the lowest point on the epic Mexico-to-Canada journey. Hikers emerge from forest paths looking simultaneously exhausted and exhilarated. Thunder Island Brewing Co serves local beers on a riverside patio where conversations flow between outdoor enthusiasts comparing notes on Eagle Creek's waterfalls. The Cascade Locks Historical Museum chronicles the original locks that gave this place its name before Bonneville Dam changed the river forever. For a perfect day, cycle the Historic Columbia River Highway, then watch sunset paint Mount Hood pink while sampling fresh-caught salmon at a waterfront table.

Hood River Hotel

Hood River Hotel

6/10 Okay
"The historic building is cool and has great character. The decor in the rooms looks like someone bought a bunch of fake cheap antiques on Temu and scattered them around. The noise at night is terrible, the building is right across the street from a 24-hour active freight railroad. When you arrive, you're given a written note about how they don't issue refunds for noise. The property description should warn you about the noise before you book, it really is impossible to sleep. The rooms are heated with a radiator. The hotel provides a note about how to control it, but the note is a lie, the building decides when you have heat and when you don't. So our room was 80 degrees every evening. Stay here if you want to roleplay as a pioneer, I guess."
