Great hotel. The car service is an excellent feature. Staff really helpful and some great recommendations for local coffee shops, restaurants etc. Easy to get to manhattan via the subway but also close to fab places around Brooklyn. Really impressed with Greenpoint. Room fantastic, great size for 2. Would have expected a daily maid service (cleab towels […] everyday etc) but other features of the hotel made up for this. The Box Hotel is a great place to stay, especially for the reasonable price. Loved the room... very comfortable and clean. Art throughout the building. A gym if you want to exercise. The walk of about 6 blocks to the Greenpoint Train Station on the G line goes through a very cute neighborhood, with Polish, Mexican, Indian, Thai... restaurants and businesses. […] Good breakfast options in that area as well. While the hotel is not a skip away from the train, they have Box Hotel Old Time Taxis, and will drive you to the train for free, if you don't want to walk... I would definitely stay there again. We stayed in the hotel's new (Nov 2012) wing, and our duplex loft suite was quite comfortable and well appointed for my family of two adults and two teens. My sister, traveling with her husband and daughter, had a problem with their equivalent suite as construction was underway in an adjacent building (circular saws at 7am the first morning followed […] by an overwhelming chemical odor); fortunately, the hotel was able to find them another room for the second night. We took occasional advantage of the free taxi service, but found it was often in use when we needed it, so on balance relied on walking; I would note, however, that this was during the week leading up to New Year's Eve, and the hotel probably was busier than usual. Ate very well in the neighborhood; access by subway to mid-town was a breeze. Hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel. Continua a leggere

One of the cutest hotels we have ever stayed in and there were lots of good things, but unfortunately a few bad things as well. My husband, son and I met our daughter for the weekend just before xmas. They let her check in early which was nice. The kitchen was a great feature and met our needs. From Grand Central station, you need to take two subways […] and then call for their free service to pick you up...which they did the first day. Unfortunately, when they get busy, or if it's after 11:00pm (or 8:00 on weekends) that free service no longer applies and you are on your own and it's sometimes hard to find a cab. Fees to get into the city were the following: $48.00 one evening, $32.00 to come home, $22.00 to come home. From Greenpoint station the cab service was between $5-10. On our last morning heading back to the subway, our free driver showed up, but they were getting busy and needed him to do something else (move suitcases), so they asked if it was alright to call another car for us. "Sure - no problem" we said. Another driver shows up and takes us to the station ...but we have to pay for it all and we assumed they were taking care of that! Not a good way to end a vacation! The Box House Hotel was the BOMB. It was furnished by Ikea. No wonder I booked this hotel. I am a Ikea fanatic. I also renovated a home using Ikea furnishings. I like the simple approach and energy efficient way this Hotel conserves energy use all the way around. It cut down on room service allowing its clients to more privacy. WE LOVED THAT. I chose this hotel because others said it was quiet. It was quiet and clean inside. It was perfect for our family coming for a NYC wedding from different parts of the country. Draw backs were that the hotel is located in an out-of-the-way neighborhood. Hotel taxi was available to take us to locations (within a mile or two), but we needed to hire a car […] service to get to airports, wedding location, and Manhattan locations. The Box House is a unique hotel. Its location is unique, the rooms are unique, everything about it actually. There is no restaurant. There is no "front desk." The rooms are large and inviting, but certainly not conventional. On the plus side everything is relatively new, including the televisions and the carpeting and the kitchen area in the room. […] The decor is "homey," and very well done. The rooms are large. The bathroom is sparkling and big. The location in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood is great if you like urban living. Graffiti and warehouses interspersed with great little bars and restaurants and shops. On the minus side the location is quite isolated. It is next to the Pulaski bridge, and there are subway stops relatively nearby, but it is a decent walk to get to them. If it was the absolute middle of winter this could be difficult, even with the old, cool taxicabs they have available. Bottom line? Great if you really like urban life. The Box House Hotel is outstanding. Our room (a loft suite with a private patio and a kitchenette with dishes, etc) was so attractive that I hated to leave it. The amenities were outstanding. Everything was spotless. The service was meticulous. I have zero complaints about our stay--and that's an almost unheard-of statement from me. The only "drawback"--and […] I use that term very, very carefully--is that the hotel is located in a formerly industrial area full of warehouses and small manufacturing facilities, many of which appear to be abandoned. In other words, the immediate environs aren't very inviting (although they are safe), and there appears to be little to do within easy walking distance. But the hotel has handled this brilliantly: they provide a list of attractions within a 2-mile radius and free cab service (in meticulously renovated hacks for the 50's!) to and from those attractions (all you need to do is call to be picked up). And the staff is unfailingly helpful. Concierges at other hotels should take lessons. I haven't stayed at a hotel where I felt more welcomed and tended to in decades. And, if the 2 restaurants at which we ate (at staff recommendation) are representative of the rest in the area, the neighborhood is, despite its appearances, full of hidden treasures. I visit Brooklyn a few times a year, and I will be staying at Box House again. I don't usually take the time to write reviews--but Box House definitely deserves the accolades. Continua a leggere

Given that Superstorm Sandy made her presence felt in New York, the hotel was in very good condition. The staff were friendly and it was a pleasure to stay there. Only problem is the industrial bits you have to walk through, but cannot fault this place... very highly recommended!

Very nice unusual boutique hotel with loft size rooms. A short walk across Pulaski bridge puts you right on 7 line with a 4 minute ride to Grand Central and an eight minute ride to Times Square. A few blocks walk puts you on the G Train. Easy access to Williamsburg, and a quick drive to East 60s, when not in high traffic times. An easy cab ride too, […] or call Mobil Limo for quick pick up anywhere in Queens, Brooklyn or NY for decent rates: 718-383-8300. Got upgraded to a two bedroom room and it was amazing. Spacious clean, well decorated and Comfortable beds. No complaints at all, staff was friendly. Only tip is don't expect to check in early. The surrounding area is ok, few cute restaurants walking distance, used a taxi to get around. Great for family or group, definitely recommend it!

They do away with some of the niceties of your average hotel (daily cleaning service, room service, etc) and pas the savings on to their visitors. The value is unbelievable. My room was cheap and palatial by any standard but certainly by NYC standards. I will never stay anywhere else in the city.

Tucked into a very industrial area, The Box House Hotel is an amazing find. The interior is stunning, everything was comfortable and convenient. Many cool shops and eateries within easy walking distance--and free on-street parking!

I loved the Box House Hotel. It was like a home away from home. Floors were were new hardwood flooring. The furnishings were tasteful, modern & interesting: handpainted art adorned the walls as well as framed old postcards of NYC. Everything was SPOTLESS... really, really clean, like a new place clean. The only thing I found really difficult was the […] schlep into Manhattan. You could have the very friendly men at the Box House take you to the subway stop via the checker taxi & that was fine when you departed during the morning hours, but if you spent all day in NYC then you were stuck walking from the train station to the Box House, which is not fun after a day of walking & riding the confusing subway in Manhattan. It may *only* be a 10-15 minute walk but when you are exhausted w/ two kids after a long day in NYC the last thing you want to do is walk in a deserted area (perfectly safe-- just deserted) & make your way through industrial trash/dirty streets to climbing up a million stairs & walking across a bridge. Adults would be fine doing this but we had two children with us & it was a huge hassle. Sure, you could get a taxi from the train to the Box House, but the area at the train station is pretty deserted at night & there were no taxis to be found. Also take note that there is no #7 train to Brooklyn on Sunday nights!! Overall the Box House was a wonderful, comfortable and very, very, very UBER clean place to stay. I nearly didn't book The Box House after looking at Google Streetview, but I'm so glad I did. The 'rooms' (more like apartments) are amazing, and despite not being in Manhattan, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the subway, and then 1 stop into Grand Central. This is really nice place, super clean, and tastefully designed and decorated. It was very convenient to have a full kitchen in the suite. It is no short of small details, they have onsite gym. The staff was very helpful and cheerful for us. Our room did not have a window but skylights; however, it did not bother us much. The sofa bed was quite comfortable. […] The location is misleading in the first look, and it is very safe and friendly. I had to look for a pharmacy at 9 PM for my son and I was amazed with the helpfulness of the neighborhood folks. It is close commute to Manhattan by subway. There are two subway stations are in walking distance. There are many grocery stores, supermarkets and all sorts of stores all in walking distance. This is still a very new hotel, so there were a lot of little things wrong with it. The website offered complimentary bikes, but they told us we'd have to pay $25 a day for them. Never mind to that. Then, the automatic blinds (awesome right?) were broken during our entire time there, leaving us plunged into darkness. And when I needed to use the business […] center, it was closed...at noon. Nous avons passé 8 nuits dans cet hôtel, du 8/12 au 16/12/2012, et notre ressenti est très positif ! Situé dans le quartier de Greenpoint à Brooklyn, quartier sans réel charme mais avec tous les commerces et restaus nécessaires aux alentours, endroit tranquille et sans problème de sécurité. L’hôtel est situé à 15 mns de marche d'une entrée de métro […] qui vous emmène en une station à Manhattan (Grand Central), de jour comme de nuit ! Il suffit de traverser le pont Pulaski, par le passage aménagé pour les piétons au bord d'une voie très roulante, mais d'où il y a une vue sublime sur Manhattan. Les taxis de l’hôtel peuvent vous emmener gratuitement aux alentours. L’hôtel est facilement accessible depuis l'aéroport JFK en Air train puis métro pour 7,25 dollars. L'accueil est courtois, avec un personnel de réception souriant, aimable et serviable prêt à vous aider pour toutes vos demandes de renseignements. L’hôtel est d'une propreté IRRÉPROCHABLE, les chambres bien équipées et particulièrement agréables, avec une literie parfaite. Pour chercher la petite bête, les seuls points sur lesquels il pourrait y avoir à redire, c'est qu'il y a des dépôts aux alentours avec des camions qui chargent la nuit, ce qui peut faire un peu de bruit en fonction de la localisation de la chambre, que les rideaux ne sont pas occultants ce qui laisse entrer de la lumière dans la chambre, et qu'il n'y a pas de tablette dans la salle de bain pour poser ses affaires de toilettes. We needed at spaciuos room since we were traveling with our three year old daughter. The room was nice, the price too, but some of the staff wasnt. Our room was in the basement, all we could see through the window was a concrete wall.. When we asked to change our room the answer was NO WAY. IMPOSSIBLE. Superbe grande chambre, mais apres la tempête Sandy les metro ne fonctionnaient plus et les voyages en taxi nous ont coutés très cher avec le rationnement en carburant (2 fois le prix, soit entre 30 et 50$ pour aller a manhatan suivant la compagnie de taxi).

Un petit bémol pour le lave vaisselle très bruyant ! Le seul inconvénient est l'accès au métro qui, s'il n'est qu'à une quinzaine de minutes à pied, nécessite de traverser un pont dont la voie […] piétonne longe un axe autoroutier.
