I've stayed here once or twice a year for the past few years. It's always the same. Brusk customer service at check-in, average rooms (clean but boring), minimal service (crappy tvs and station choices - I mean, really, do I need to scroll through a few blank channels between every channel that actually comes it .. and no CNN or cable news? Really? […] In 2012?!!) It'll do in a pinch, but next time I'll look elsewhere, even if it costs more. Continua a leggere

A good place to sleep cheap in Chicago, IF the people in the room next door are not too loud. We could hear ordinary conversations through the walls. One person left his TV on all night, fortunately with the volume low enough that we were able to sleep. this hotel was mostly nice, the staff was pleasant minus the one guy. our room was right on top of clark st and we heard no less then 600 car horns throughout our 3 day stay. heaters are poorly designed and loud and showering was just awful due to the 60s style accordian shower doors which constantly touch you.

A good value for staying on the north side of Chicago.

Went to Chicago for a concert. It was easy to fine, and in what we felt like was a secure location. The price was very reasonable for the quality. The room and bathroom were very clean, which is a big thing for many including myself. The manager on duty was extremely nice and considerate. He even remembered my name when we checked out the next day!

I didn't find any roaches in this motel! Fine place to get ready for a night in Chi and a comfy bed to come back to. Basic amenities, and quiet.

But if you're hoping to find this hotel coveniently located to public transportation to get you quickly and efficiently to all (every single one) of the most interesting sights downtown and all sports venues - DING, DING, DING this is the place for […] you. Perhaps the best thing about this hotel is the FREE PARKING - you won't find this anywhere else in the city. Superbly clean rooms, exceptionally friendly and efficient staff, nice free continental breakfast, at a great price. A short 7-10 minutye walk to the CTA train station at Thorndale, from which the red line will get you to the Miracle Mile, the Loop, or River North. We also found the hotel conveniently located to tae the train north to Evanstown for the PSU vs. Northwestern football game - Hail to the Lion! Heart of Chicago is a quaint, 1950's style motel. If you're expecting swanky, downtown digs, this is not it. But, if you appreciate a value and kitchy bathroom decor, you'll be quite pleased. The breakfast was very sparse but, overall, the place was clean, conveniently located, and cost effective. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel needs more parking spaces for peak times.

Decent hotel for the money. No frills. No hair dryer, but not too bad for the city, when trying to stay somewhere in Chicago on a budget.

Saturday night we got in at 10 pm and got the last parking space (handicapped, so we told the desk clerk). At 3 am we were called to move our car - by mistake, as we weren't blocking anyone. However, there were at least six cars that were blocked. Hope they weren't trying to get to the airport on time.

great place to stay when you'd rather spend your money out doing all of the things you'll be doing rather than lounging in your room. It's inexpensive- located near great food & trains & buses! note to Heart: I could do with out all of the spider webs on the railings). The motel is basic but clean and service was great. We did not do the continental breakfast so cannot comment on that. Through my own error I forgot to ask for a non smoking room so the room we had a very stale smoke smell. Had to wash everything when I got home. They were booked solid so I could not switch rooms. I would stay there again.

Quaint? This might be a good description of Heart O' Chicago! We felt like we had stepped back into the 50's. However, the staff was nice, our room was clean, plenty of parking, Wi-Fi, etc. We stayed 2 nights because we went to 2 Cubs games. Found several good restaurants nearby and Target was just up the street. What more could we want?

the Hotel is old and the room is very outdated furniture old maTtress very soft . Bathroom looked to be updated last in the in 1970 HOWEVER THE ROOM WAS VERY VERY CLEAN . The location of our Groundfloor room was faceing the Street with the Busstop right in front of the Window and on a very noisy Street , Wrigleyfield is close by and N.Lincoln Ave is […] not far and thats where we wanted to be for the German Festival . I I would stay there again if I could get a different Room location ,Continental Breakfast included ,PARKING IS FREE a rarety in the Chicago area . I will not recommend to my Friends because they all have more Money then I do and therefore are able to stay at the expensive Hotels downtown and they have to have them 400 Threadcount sheets lol. If u need a place to lay ur head while going to a couple games its the perfect spot. Clean, convenient, free parking & staff nice.

I was skeptical even after reading the reviews here...but Heart O' Chicago was awesome. It's in a great neighborhood, it was extremely clean and conveniently located. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. It was unbeleivable!! Although it was apparently an older location, it was the cleanest hotel that I have stayed in for several years. That includes the chain motels. The location of the hotel was very convenient to the Chicago Bus service - 2 stops within a block of the hotel. just what I was looking for

There is nothing good but location. That's what you pay for. Everything else is much less then average.

This is a clean place to stay. We were in town to take care of our granddaughter for a couple of days, so we didn't need plush surroundings. For Chicago, the price was okay - the next night we paid half the price for a similar room.

we visited chicago to settle our child into college. really a motel; inner city location met our needs. attendants were pleasant. rooms were remarkably clean; the dated decor was charming. we did not need a pool or many TV channels. was surprised to find no shampoo or hairdryer. AC was equal to larger hotels. breakfast was good and basic - although […] carb heavy. traffic noise did not interfere with sleep. would recommend to those looking for a clean, conveniently located motel with pleasant staff and free breakfast and offstreet parking! Ok. It is Chicago. If you are from Indiana you are not going to get it. If you are from Miami or New York this place will be comforting. Not fancy just solid and friendly. Walked to the supermarket for snacks, really great restaurants. Drove in from the LSD. Fantastic!

We stayed here after a Cubs game and visited the Shed Aquarium in the morning. The location couldn't have been better-- close to everything. The surrounding neighborhoods would have been fun to check out too had we more time (lots of outdoor shopping districts, coffee shops, book stores). The hotel itself is more of a motel. Old, worn, noisy. We wondered […] if some of the residents were long-term renters. When booking the room, no one answered the phone anytime we tried to call-- apparently you have to book on-line, so I think it would be difficult to request any kind of special accommodations (king bed vrs two full size, e.g.). But wi-fi was free, there was a pretty decent free breakfast (cereals, donuts, fresh fruit, juice, coffee), and the price was reasonable for the location. I'd stay there again, though I might bring a nice mattress pad because the beds were not very comfortable. This hotel is great for a place to stay, but don't expect any luxury. Continua a leggere

this hotel was very clean and appeared to be in a good neighborhood. the rooms were good size and had the essentials, but no microwave or fridge. the breakfast was decent. the staff were very nice. the only downfall during my stay was that the hotel was about 1/2 mile from the "L"(subway), and the buses only came once every 30 min- 1 hour, so alot of […] walking occured. once you got to the subway station it was very easy to get anywhere in chicago you wanted to go. i would stay here agian and just bring comfortable shoes. thanks Continua a leggere

In a nutshell it was a good value for the price..When I checked in room 110 the A/C was pumping away..75 degree air!! A small child's toy was left on the floor that the housekeeper missed. They moved me to a nicer room upstairs. Be VERY careful walking around the TV shelf as the edges are sharp and near where some drawers are. I hit my forehead walking […] around it to get to the drawers. I brought up a suggestion to put rubber feet on the edges but they didn't seem to care. So I can't give them a high rating overall. It's not the Hyatt but generally it's a good bet.Just make sure your AC unit it working in the Summer right away or head back to the front desk ! Continua a leggere

Front desk person was not corteous. Toom credit card charge me without letting me know when asked what he had charged he told me when i requested proof he gkt upset showed it and walked away. No something i recomend. And rooms smell weird.

The employees are pleasant. It is a bit of a walk to the local El (subway) stop, but it is doable. Andersonville is a nice neighborhood. Unfortunately, a fire alarm went off at night, waking up several people during my stay.

The motel was very close and convenient to downtown Chicago, which was where all our venues and destinations were located (Navy Pier, Willis Tower, John Hancock Observatory, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Magnificent Mile). However, the room was sprayed with a LOT of febreze or airwick, or some kind of air freshener. The smell was […] so strong, breathing kinda hurt. Overall it was clean, convenient and comfortable. I was a bit skeptical about this hotel when booking because of the price and its relatively close location to downtown. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The room was very clean and well maintained and the area around the hotel seemed quite nice.

Very clean, nice location, cheap. Continental BF was OK. TV channel selection was terrible. Questionable safety: on our second night we saw police going into another room with handguns drawn and another officer in the parking lot carrying an assault rifle. An AK47 if I'm correct. Made me very nervous to be their with my child.

If I had to choose a word to describe this motel, it'd be meh. Like the title says, you get what you pay for. The nice thing about this motel is that it's really cheap compared to surrounding hotels and it only a few blocks walk away from the red line. The hotel staff were nice enough- the guy who check us in at night was a little grumpy, but the morning […] staff was extremely friendly. The condition of the room is fair, I guess. I reserved a two bed non-smoking room. Overall, everything is extremely outdated- small fuzzy box tv with limited channels, standard bedding, and the bathroom looks like it hasn't been worked on in forty years. That being said, everything was clean. The room also had a nice a/c box so the room was cool. Overall I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5. It's perfect for younger folks who want to spend a weekend out and don't really care about extra amenities. I would not recommend it, though, to a family with children or perhaps an elderly couple. If you can find another place, it might not be a bad idea, but don't cross this motel off your list right away. Continua a leggere

I often stay here when I'm in Chicago because of the convenient location. Any other hotel is going to be at least $250... Sure there are some down sides...this time around: wifi internet doesn't work in the furthest room from the hotel, the breakfast is only cereal, oatmeal, donuts, and some fruit, very unlathery soaps in the bathroom, and that they […] ran out of double bed non-smoking rooms by the time i arrived, even though i had RESERVED a non-smoking. what else does a reservation mean (seinfeld episode, anyone?). pros: they do have readers and free time-out chicago's for guests, still got a king non-smoking room and switched out the next day, parking is free, love the sign in front of the hotel, very clean rooms. We stayed there for our trip to chicago for the cubs game. We arrived to a dive of a motel and soon after we got into our room, there were two bullet holes in the window of our room! Cable TV and phone were charged as extras for your room. They only give your One room key, so we could not come back at different times and do are own thing. The only good […] thing was that it was a quick trip to wrigley. Though the cab driver did ask why we were staying at this motel! we just wanted 2 beds and a shower but this was worse then expected! I thought that this stay would be nice. The clerk at the desk was rude. The room though clean was extremely uncomfortable. In fact no one even slept BC it was so hot and stuffy in the room. Mind you it was only 60* that night. When we tried to turn the cool air on the unit sparked thensmoked and blew out even hotter air. Then to boot we couldn't get […] it to shut off. When we brought this to the attention of the desk they did nothing. They didn't offer us a different room or a discount or anything. When we checked in the person was very friendly and helpful. It is an older motel, but very clean. They had receintly painted the room and put a new sink and stool in the bathroom. We would stay here again. There are no charges for parking.
