"Hotel Best Western Plus River North"Recensito da un ospite di Hotels.com il 21 nov 2011
Posizione comodissima, a piedi si raggiunge la via proncipale e in poco tempo si ha tutto a portata di mano! Camere pulite enormi e ordinate!
"good deall"Recensito da un ospite di Hotels.com il 18 nov 2011
I booked what was the smallest room at the River Hotel, that came at a very good price for Chicago's standards. Lean and straightforward hotel, fantastic location - free wifi and chilled water. It was small by american standards, but not for European or Japanese standards. Highly recommended hotel -
"good location"Recensito da un ospite di Hotels.com il 24 ott 2011
the room was a bit old and smelly
"heart of chicago"
Very clean, nice location, cheap. Continental BF was OK. TV channel selection was terrible. Questionable safety: on our second night we saw police going into another room with handguns drawn and another officer in the parking lot carrying an assault rifle. An AK47 if I'm correct. Made me very nervous to be their with my child.
"handy to wrigley field"
a clean bare-bones motel ideal for the cubbies fan- just one short bus ride to wrigley field close to lots of interesting restaurants and shops in Andersonville-within walking distance
"Heart O' Chicago- you get what you pay for"
If I had to choose a word to describe this motel, it'd be meh. Like the title says, you get what you pay for. The nice thing about this motel is that it's really cheap compared to surrounding hotels and it only a few blocks walk away from the red line. The hotel staff were nice enough- the guy who check us in at night was a little grumpy, but the morning […] staff was extremely friendly. The condition of the room is fair, I guess. I reserved a two bed non-smoking room. Overall, everything is extremely outdated- small fuzzy box tv with limited channels, standard bedding, and the bathroom looks like it hasn't been worked on in forty years. That being said, everything was clean. The room also had a nice a/c box so the room was cool. Overall I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5. It's perfect for younger folks who want to spend a weekend out and don't really care about extra amenities. I would not recommend it, though, to a family with children or perhaps an elderly couple. If you can find another place, it might not be a bad idea, but don't cross this motel off your list right away. Continua a leggere

"Clean rooms, great location, best value for the $$"
I often stay here when I'm in Chicago because of the convenient location. Any other hotel is going to be at least $250... Sure there are some down sides...this time around: wifi internet doesn't work in the furthest room from the hotel, the breakfast is only cereal, oatmeal, donuts, and some fruit, very unlathery soaps in the bathroom, and that they […] ran out of double bed non-smoking rooms by the time i arrived, even though i had RESERVED a non-smoking. what else does a reservation mean (seinfeld episode, anyone?). pros: they do have readers and free time-out chicago's for guests, still got a king non-smoking room and switched out the next day, parking is free, love the sign in front of the hotel, very clean rooms. "Bullet Holes!!"
We stayed there for our trip to chicago for the cubs game. We arrived to a dive of a motel and soon after we got into our room, there were two bullet holes in the window of our room! Cable TV and phone were charged as extras for your room. They only give your One room key, so we could not come back at different times and do are own thing. The only good […] thing was that it was a quick trip to wrigley. Though the cab driver did ask why we were staying at this motel! we just wanted 2 beds and a shower but this was worse then expected! "lousy"
I thought that this stay would be nice. The clerk at the desk was rude. The room though clean was extremely uncomfortable. In fact no one even slept BC it was so hot and stuffy in the room. Mind you it was only 60* that night. When we tried to turn the cool air on the unit sparked thensmoked and blew out even hotter air. Then to boot we couldn't get […] it to shut off. When we brought this to the attention of the desk they did nothing. They didn't offer us a different room or a discount or anything. And don't even get me started on the so called breakfast they serve. Yuck Continua a leggere
"Heart O' Chicago"
When we checked in the person was very friendly and helpful. It is an older motel, but very clean. They had receintly painted the room and put a new sink and stool in the bathroom. We would stay here again. There are no charges for parking.

"Heart O Chicago"
Wow I would not recommend this hotel motel to nobody else, when I checked in April 2nd 2011 and went inside the room it smelled like funk and the people at the front desk were fair

"Heart O Chicago"
Very convenient and clean. Yes the bedspreads are not "fashionable", but so what? I felt safe, and I slept well. The bathroom was very clean. The decor of the bathroom fits with the neighborhood-a bit retro-pink.
"Internet/"free" wi-fi"
We couldn't connect very easily to the wi-fi. Front desk didn't seem very knowledgeable regarding correcting it. VERY inconvenience to connect with friends/check back on emails/work.
"Decent budget motel"
Nothing fancy but OK for the price. Dated, but clean and courteous service. Free parking, unlike downtown hotels. Typical basic continental breakfast including coffee, tea, juice, milk, cereal, donuts, fruit. Much better than a different (less conveniently located) motel we stayed at on an earlier trip to Chicago.
"A long way from the heart of Chicago"
I booked on price and the availability of free wifi. Complimentary breakfast was a bonus, The price remained good - the free wifi was variable and the breakfast was sparse. This is not a quiet hotel - Ridge St is quite busy all day and night and there was a lot of traffic noise. Nor is the hotel close to Chicago - it is just about off the end of the […] Lonely Planet maps and is about a one hour bus ride to downtown - the bus ride is good value, though. There are some good restaurants within a walk - my strong pick was The Adriatic on Clark St which provided generous, well-priced servings of Balkan classics with attentive service, It is recommended. "Baaaad motel"
I don't think I've ever stayed in a noisier hotel! Commute traffic surrounds it, and sirens (fire, police) seem to be mandatory. Final straw: On the last morning, maintenance crews were driving bolts into the second level (overhead). I understand maintenance has to be done, but before 9:00 a.m. Chicago time??? (7:00 a.m, California. Hello, California!!! […] I'm glad to be backkkkk!) Continua a leggere

"Heart O Chicago Motel - Nice and Basic"
We were in Chicago for a concert weekend and just needed a place to sleep and shower. HOC Motel worked for us! Yes, it's decor is dated (pink bathroom and early 90s style bedspreads), but it was clean and the right price. The staff was nice. The breakfast was typical (muffins, donuts, coffee, and juice). With all the talk of bedbugs in the media these […] days, the first thing I did upon arrival, was check the beds. They were enclosed in plastic, which made me feel better about my stay...no bugs! The area traffic was a little loud, but nothing that kept us up at night. The shower had great water pressure, which is always a plus in my book. The room stayed warm even after I turned the air conditioning temperature down. It wasn't too bad, but I would have liked it to be a little cooler. There was no clock radio, so if you need an alarm, be sure to set your cell phone as your wake-up call. The bus stop was a block away, and we made it to Wrigleyville in less than 30 minutes. There is a White Castle a block away, and the motel staff suggested a pizza place that had great food. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at COH Motel. If we ever need to stay in the area again, we'll be staying there! Continua a leggere

It's convenient to downtown. The parking lot is small and the staff facilitates double parking when it's full. That's not particularly convenient. There was fruit available at breakfast.

"Always suits our needs"
We go to a lot of Cubs games and this hotel is within walking distance to the bus stop on Clark which brings us straight down to Wrigley. Parking is included with the price of the hotel however you need to give your license plate number at check in since the hotel lot is only for guests of the hotel. This is by no means a five star hotel, however it […] is always clean and the beds are fairly comfortable. The decor in the rooms hasn't been updated since the 70's so don't expect a very modern looking hotel. Also, this hotel still gives you an actual key to open the door and not a key card. One of the other upgrades that this hotel hasn't made is the air conditioning system. I stayed at the hotel once in April and the air conditioner didn't work because the A/C system wasn't turned on yet. I called to complain to the front desk and they said that the A/C system doesn't get turned on until the weather starts reaching 70 degrees. So beware if you go to this hotel in the spring and fall because there is a chance the air conditioning system might not be on. I have gone to this hotel with a group of girls and have felt safe. The surrounding area is well lit at night. The continental breakfast leaves something to be desired. It is usually just orange juice and prepackaged pastries. Dont't expect a swimming pool or fitness room. All in the all, the place is pretty retro and lacks some standard upgrades but that is why this place is so much cheaper than other Chicago hotels. This is the perfect place to go if all you need is a place to park your car and sleep. So if you want to go cheap for a Chicago hotel, go to the Heart O' Chicago because it is pretty decent quality for the price. Continua a leggere
"Free parking was easy and close-ish to the El"
We enjoyed the free parking in an easily accessible parking lot right in front of the motel. We walked or bussed to the nearby El stations which didn't take long- about 15 minutes. Bryn Mawr was easier to get to by bus but Thorndale wasn't a bad walk through a very peaceful residential area late at night. I would recommend buying day transit passes […] ahead of time and having them mailed to you for free since the walk to the Walgreens at Bryn Mawr is a bit of a distance or you could pay bus fare. The staff were very courteous and helpful and the room clean. It was a bit bare bones with only soap provided and cheap towels. The breakfast was okay- just coffee, donuts, packaged muffins, some fruit, and oatmeal. I would definitely consider staying there again on my next trip to Chicago. Continua a leggere
"A place to sleep"
This is a motel. It is clean and safe. I would not recommend for a long stay but for a place to sleep, it's great. Also, the bus stops right at the corner.
"It was what we needed"
Exactly what we expected for the price. Location and low cost was the key, and it was an easy and safe enough walk to the el to catch a Cubs game. No frills, limited TV selection, iffy 'free' breakfast, but what did we expect for this price? Parking was easy and free. Room seemed clean enough. Walked back late at night with no issues. Don't know that […] I'd take the family there, but for a couple of guys just headed out to see baseball games, it was fine. Continua a leggere

"Mixed bag"
This hotel is not for everyone. On the plus side it has a great location, and free parking. Two definite pluses for a hotel in Chicago. Our experience with the hotel staff was very positive and contrary to what is stated in another review. However, there are some definite drawbacks. No cable TV, no radio, no iron or ironing board, and the in-room internet […] is maddeningly slow. Cleanliness could have been better also. The filter for the air conditioner outlet was caked in dust, there was mold in the bath tub, and the two chairs in the room were stained. Stay here if you simply need a place to sleep. If you want even simple conveniences, then you should consider another hotel. Continua a leggere
"Heart of Chicago in Chicago"
Cleanliness and comfort were acceptable. The noisy drunks on Friday and Saturday nights, until 4:30 AM were not. Management did nothing about the problem.

"It works!"
As others have said, rooms are very basic. We got 3 plastic cups, a plastic bucket for ice, and small soap bars. No alarm clock, no shampoo, no hair dryer, not one hook in the bathroom. We don't care too much because we bring these things just in case we need them. We showered at 10 am on a busy Saturday morning, and there was plenty of hot water with […] strong flow. The bed was comfortable, and pillows were above average. The channel selection on the television is limited, but we had no intention of sitting in a hotel room and spending much time watching TV. The AC worked well. It is about 3 miles to Wrigley Field, and cabs are easy to get on Clark St. Neighborhood is fine - neither upscale nor dangerous. If you get a midnight craving for a slider, there is a White Castle about a block away. The room is immaculately cleaned. I have never been in a cleaner room. I've stayed at some 4-stars that were not as clean as this room. The free breakfast was surprisingly good - what you'd get at many of the major chains. Because all the room open onto the parking area, there is more street noise. The drapes don't keep the room very dark in the morning. The hotel has the basics down pat: good bedding, good temperature, good price, good location, free parking, and good plumbing. The main plus was how clean it was. Since we prefer more amenities, this hotel won't float to the top of our preference list. However, I would have no hesitation about staying there again, and I highly recommend it to the budget-conscious traveler. Continua a leggere
"Heart O' Chicago - great basic Andersonville motel"
This is not a fancy motel, so if you are expecting that, you may be disappointed. However, if you are used to and are expecting a basic motel, this place is for you. Great location - you can either walk or take the Clark St bus down a few blocks to the shops in the Andersonville neighborhood. The room was very clean. My only complaint was that they […] wifi was very intermittent. I had really counted on being able to use the internet while we were there, so that was a disappointment. However, I would definitely recommend the place and would stay there again. Just don't count on the wifi. Continua a leggere
"Heart O' Chicago - a bed and a shower"
Definitely no frills; however, I did expect at least shampoo but only bar soap provided. No fridge, microwave, coffee maker expected but not even an alarm clock in the room. The TV remote is chained to the night stand. Older decor. Kids loved the yellow 70s bathroom but very small. There was a wet spot on the carpet that saturated our socks. Location […] is great. "Neat and clean"
While not as up-to-date as many chain motels, the room was neat and clean. Good internet access. Just what we needed for one night!
"Clean, but bare bones"
The one time I didn't bring a hair dryer, and the room hadn't one. No shampoo samples either. Guess this is what 2-star means. The only thing they supplied was bar soap. Bring everything you might need/want.
"No AAA rating"
is a very bad place to stay for the price you pay.

"Heart 'o' Chicago"
Neat, clean rooms, helpful hotel staff, decent continental breakfast and free parking. This is not a luxury hotel but a comfortable affordable place to sleep in a safe, beautiful neighborhood convenient to downtown Chicago and the lakefront. I will definitely be returning.
"Quaintly charming"
The Heart 'O' Chicago definitely has a certain old-school charm. It's not fancy, and the decor is a bit retro, but the rooms are spacious, the staff is friendly, and it's an easy walk to all the restaurants and shops of Andersonville on Clark St.
"Continues to be a GREAT bargain"
Traveled to Chicago for a Cubs game with husband and two teenagers. Even though check-in was supposed to be 3 p.m., our rooms were ready at noon. Dropped our bags in room, left car at hotel where there is no charge for parking, and cabbed to the game. There is also bus transportation nearby, too. Rooms were clean and quite adequate for the price. Hotel […] was quiet that evening which was great for sleeping. Continental breakfast in a.m. included cereal, muffins, oatmeal, coffee, juice, milk and fresh fruit. We have stayed here before and will continue to stay at Heart O Chicago. Nothing fancy but no bad surprises either. Adequate and clean is the best way to describe the hotel. Service is always good, too. Continua a leggere

"budget comfort"
u can't beat the price for a hotel in Chicago. it is a bit far from downtown and the Miracle Mile shopping district, but if you need to be north of town, you should consider this place. Free parking too! If you are expecting a Four Seasons, keep looking. But if you only need a comfortable room with decent beds you can save a ton of money here. The decor […] is a bit outdated and a few items could use some refurbishment, btu overall it was clean and comfortable. There is a bit of vehicle traffic from the severel major roads nearby, but nothing horrible. Only 4 blocks from the CTA trains, and only 1 block from bus lines. Continua a leggere

"Very clean and comfortable"
My stay at the Heart O Chicago was great! The parking lot was very easy to get into from the street. Free parking was available. Our room was very clean with comfortable beds. The Heart of Chicago Motel is a good choice if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay. Do not expect any luxuries though. It is very bare bones and nothing attractive about it. "Great place and a great bargain."
I just stayed at HoC this past weekend because I had work to do in the city. I got in on Friday night and stayed in my room to work all day Saturday and left Sunday for my other appointment and then home. The other reviews talk about this place being right out of the '60's, but it's more than just the quaint decor. The place was so clean and the people […] at the desk were very polite, and extremely helpful. I called ahead to check my reservation with the hotel and although what I had originally booked online was no longer available, they bent over backwards to accomodate me the best they could when I got there. I ended up liking what I got better than what I had originally booked. The breakfast is just cereal, juice, milk, and a variety of muffins, granola bars, donuts, fruit and coffee, but was a nice extra for such an inexpensive place. Basic cable channels, no hairdryers or irons, no microwave or coffee maker. I think the price offsets those things nicely. If you really need it, the desk guy will let you use the microwave after breadfast times. He was just wonderful and never made me feel bad when I needed help or extra service. There is an ice machine and pop machines available too. I saw that somebody earlier mentioned "thin towels." I thought they were fine. Sheets were clean ...outside stairwells were very clean...front desk area looked nice. I did hear some street noise, but, c'mon, you're in Chicago. It wasn't bad at all. Anybody who'd give this place less than a 4 or 5 rating should prolly just go to an upscale place and pay for it next time. If you want a clean, safe place to sleep or work, with nice service, free breakfast, and free parking...this is the place to stay on the north side of town. My advice to optimize your stay here: 1. Call a week or more before your stay and make sure your reservation has been recieved from the site you booked it. 2. Check in and park early cause the lot does fill up and a few late comers will have to doublepark. They ma Continua a leggere
