Super gli hot springs all'aperto.

"Smelly and unpleasant behind the grand facade"
Easily our poorest experience in Japan, though we also stayed in much cheaper (as well as more expensive) hotels. The hotel has high aspirations and a very grand reception area, but the room was very small and stank of smoke. The curtains were stiff and brown with nicotine. Although we had requested a non-smoking room when booking months in advance, […] hotel staff were unhelpful when we complained and made no attempt to rectify the problem. Breakfast was very expensive (2500 yen) for poor quality food, especially the non-Japanese options - we went to a coffee shop after the first day. The location is fine, but there are much better places to stay and I certainly wouldn't return. Continua a leggere
"Nice Stay in Kyoto"
We stayed for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon. The hotel is located downtown, which is great for seeing a part of "actual" Kyoto instead of being super close to the tourist attractions - but to go to the temples etc, you do have to take the subway or bus. On the plus side, there is a lot to see in Kyoto and it's spread out, and we were centrally located […] to check out any part of town. Our room was very nice and clean, and reasonably sized. The decor was nice too. My only gripe would be that the bar and breakfast costs were very expensive compared to other hotels we stayed in on the trip. They did give us great suggestions for places to go in the neighborhood and staff were friendly and spoke reasonable English. Continua a leggere

"Interesting style, good location"
The interior had some odd features (you'll find a sizeable church built inside a glass covered hall!) but rather nice. Good location for a hotel if you're a tourist, since Kyoto is not that big you are actually within walking distance from many major sites withing the city center as well as on the outskirts. The welcoming may perhaps not be that bright […] and sunny, but service is efficient and correct. Rooms are rather cosy, and even leaves enough space to open your bags... Continua a leggere

"Great for price, great location"
We stayed in Hotel Monterey on April 9-10 2012. The hotel is definitely a solid 3-star, not more, not less. It's very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The spa is great if you like onsen /hot springs. The room we had was very small. We had the breakfast buffet and it wasn't very good but it was very convenient. The hotel is very close […] to the subway. In hindsight we would've stayed in a nicer hotel but Hotel Monterey was as advertised and expected. Continua a leggere
"Great hotel, lovely staff, brilliant location"
We loved this hotel. It's clean, quiet, centrally-located and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Kyoto has a great vibe to it and this was a great place from which to enjoy exploring. We found it was quite a distance between the 'key' sightseeing areas but the subway was easy to negotiate and the taxis plentiful (though not cheap). If we'd […] have been closer to the station that may have been better but we loved being central and close to the Manga museum, shops of Shijo-dori and the lovely Pontocho street. All in all a great time had here. Continua a leggere

"Hotel Monterey Kyoto is a great place to stay"
We were in Kyoto to attend a conference. The accomodations were excellent, the neighborhood was nice and had everything we needed or wanted, and the subway was handy for travel to/from the conference and places we wanted to visit.
"Monetery Kyoto, winning..."
My second time staying here, this hotel is great. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms and this hotel is pretty much close to everything. Anything that is out of walking distance can be reached in minutes via subway or taxi. Would definitely stay here again.
Hotel Monterrey was very nice. The rooms are very clean, albeit small. It's along the main road, so it's fairly convenient to get to and from the train station (with a cab ride).
"A lovely and nice hotel!"
The staff are nice with good service. We did like the decoration of the room! Lovel, warm and comfortable. Also, the location is good which is close to railway station and with shops, cafes, resturants, convenience stores and supermarket nearby. You can also talk some walks to the main shopping streets of Kyoto.
"Good service and good location"
I'm from THAILAND. I and my friend stay at Hotel Monterey Kyoto 5 nights. We are very happy because good location, comfortable room and good service. We This hotel have serive to send our luaggage to the hotel at tokyo. We are thing to stay at Hotel Monterey Kyoto again.
"Love the location"
I love the location of this hotel, close to bus and subway lines. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. The room was always clean. My only complaint was the temperature was set a little too warm for my liking. Other than that, it's a wonderful hotel!
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
the hotel is in good location and they upgrade us to deluxe room when we checked in. However, the wall is too thin and when we talked, someone would hear us even though we talked very softly.
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto - convenient, clean and great"
This hotel exceeded all expectations - it was centrally located with great access to subways, buses and just two stops from the main Kyoto train station. The size of the room was standard for Japan - by western standards a small, but extremely well laid out and clean. The added bonus of the free english newspaper was great to wake up and see at our […] door. We stayed for four days and were extremely happy. The cost per night was very affordable. We'd definitely recommend this hotel. Continua a leggere
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
Ideal location, good service, the staff speaks English quite well and is willing to help. The room is small but practical. If you're going there for tourism, I suggest buying the combined subway/bus ticket, it will make your trips to the main attractions much more convenient!

"Hotel Monterey Kyoto - Comfortable & Convenient"
Kyoto is a beautiful city. I enjoyed Kyoto best compared to Kobe & Osaka. After a great day of walking & touring about in Kyoto, it was a pleassure to return back to HMK. HMK is very comfortable and conveniently located. All the faciliites that are needed are located within short walking distance. The staff were always very patient to guide us & provide […] us information 'how to get about'. Comparing to the hotels in Osaka & Kobe, HMK tops it. I will return to Kyoto for sure and it will be knowing that I can stay in HMK Hoping that HMK does not get to expensive to stay since it is such a nice hotel, value for money. Thank you HMK. "An old English style hotel in old Jpn Kyoto...."
This is a very comfortable hotel and provides good security to her guest. Everything else in the room is prefect. This Hotel is definitely value for money. Will strongly recommend to all viewers of this website. Make your stay in Kyoto an interesting one by staying in an old English style hotel in old Japan capital, Kyoto..
"Great hotel, great location!"
I stayed at this hotel for four nights and booked online so got a really good rate. It is in a perfect location as there are only two main metro train lines in Kyoto and they intersect at the station nearest the hotel (about 2 min walk from the closest exit but there are many exits!) so very convenient. The hotel staff were also very helpful with any […] sightseeing questions and arranged for us a travel itinerary to Koya-san which was our next destination. Our room was lovely and we were very happy to come back to our hotel room after a long day sightseeing! The hotel has a very european style but we enjoyed it as a brake from futons and tatami! "Will Stay Again Next Time"
A very nice hotel in Kyoto, price is good, location is good, 2 mins. walk to to the subway station, 15 mins. to the busy shopping area, convenience store is nearby. Will come back next time.
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto- all class in a good location"
The hotel is easily located/ recognised if you can manage to go the right way down the dori's in kyoto, It's a short walk to the train station, no marathon. You can access the main districts in Kyoto eg: Gion by foot quite easily. Short walk to the kyoto manga museum, and the shopping districts. The hotel itself has first rate facilities including hot […] spring baths on the 13th? floor and very nice rooms aswell as a few in house resturants including a rather pricy japanese place, though it also has exeptional service. "Spacious for a Japanese hotel"
with a 16months baby, a hubby over 6ft tall and well built, and our limited time for our first visit in Kyoto, my focus were: baby friendnliness, size of the bed and bathroom (my husband couldn't even stand up in a hotel in Tokyo!) and ease of getting to places. Full marks for the first two. They upgraded us for free to a slightly larger room to ensure […] we were not too cramped with a cot in the room. The bath was very comfy + nice - even slightly bigger than the one i have in my own house in the UK I think. The staff were very curteous as you would expect Japanese people to be, but they seemed genuine and were very warm. Top marks! If i have to be picky, it's about ease of getting to places form the hotel. 1) No problem if you don't mind walking as it's very close to an underground station, and walking distance to Major bus routes. Kyoto has a fab network of buses which i didn't realise till i got there. Prefer it to trains as it has a much more flexible and diverse route than the train. Also a capped fare if you buy a one day bus pass of only 500yen. If you hop on bus or train more than twice in a day, you'll save money this way. For us with 16 months old, the walking to the bus stop with a stroller took much more time than we'd have liked. 2) Concierge only told us one bus route to go to Kamigamo, a bus route that takes 45min plus, when i later discovered there is another route that takes only about 20min for walking a little further to a different bus stop. A little disappointed at that. My husband did comment on the 'firm' matteress that someone else did. It didnlt stop him from sleeping though. Also did notice the fluctuation in water temperature but the difference in the temperature was not significant enough to warrant a complaint. to conclude, i couldn't be happier with my experience at this hotel, especially since i thought that the quality to price ratio was very high, after looking at eye soring prices of other hotels. "Hotel Monterey Kyoto- a really nice hotel to stay"
It's clean and very comfortable. Close to market , subway, bus stop, and shopping stores. All the staff are friendly and willing to help We had a great trip here.
"Pretty good place"
Very nice hotel and good service. Room was very small and had an uncomfortable bed (both typical in Japan). Biggest drawback for us was the hotel was 3 blocks from the nearest bus station, which we found to be the most convenient form of transportation. Other than that, good place.

"Luxury hotel!"
Room was BIG! Very comfortable and luxurious hotel. Good location to a variety of sight seeing things but a bit of a walk from the JR station - need to take the subway to hotel (about $3AUD) or a taxi (1000 yen). Would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel.
"Monterey Kyoto ... all good"
clean, quiet, convenient ... good hotel.
"Monterey Hotel- Excellent!"
This hotel is one of the best places that I have stayed for the cost. The rooms are clean and big and they have an amazing spa pool area on the top floor. Conveniently located in Kyoto, this hotel is quite the gem!
Very pleaaed with this hotel. Convenient to subway (metro), restaurants, and supermarket. Staff was pleasant. If you are carrying luggage, be sure to inquire about which subway exit has an elevator.

"Great hotel, great location!"
This was my third time at Hotel Monterey and it won't be my last! If you are looking for a comfortable hotel in a luxiurious environment, Hotel Monterey is ideal. I frequent the spa area, for a choice of hot springs and sauna or the rock bed room. Its central location makes it convenient to go anyywhere, if you want to visit temples you can catch a […] nearby bus or take a leisurely stroll to the Gion district. Its about an half hour walk but there are plenty of shops and eateries to stop off at on the way. The subway is a stone throw away so if you're short on time, its always an option. I went to Arashiyama which is beautiful and visited the Bamboo forest. The bus stop is just up the road and it takes about 45mins! Hotel Monterey really is a luxiourious hotel in an ideal setting. For sure I will stay again and again! Continua a leggere

water temperature in the bathroom was unstable, water coming out would be hot at the moment and then turn cold at the next, kind of annoying when you're taking a shower. Other than that, the hotel was awesome, and very convenient.
