Island Inn Sanibel

L'hotel si trova in una posizione magnifica. Ovviamente le camere che danno sul golfo sono le più ambite e le deliziose. Il personale è estremamente disponibile e cordiale e il ristorante italiano al suo interno è delizioso e curatissimo. Forse un po' troppo per una famiglia con bambini. Neo: sulle terrazze ci sono le zanzariere che riducono un po' […] la vista, ma sono necessarie. Purtroppo passano lo stesso i piccoli no-see-ums, insettini quasi invisibile che mordono che è un piacere. Lo spray alla recepito è d'obbligo o bisogna vivere con le finestre chiuse. La colazione è ottima ma l'infrastruttura che la ospita non è accogliente. La colazione inclusa nel prezzo viene servita fra una saletta d'entrata e il pub semi-buio . Tavolini normali ce ne sono due o tre, gli altri sono bassi davanti al divanetto o sono il bancone del pub e i tavolini alti da pub, appunto. Fuori non c'è neanche un tavolino con due sedie. Liked the location and the easy access to beach. Very helpful staff with information. Lots to do like shuffleboard, tennis, horseshoes, etc. Rooms were comfortable. Rates were reasonable for the island.

The location right on the beach was wonderful, and people were all pretty nice. Be aware that breakfast is paltry , and I felt sorry for the families with kids who might have expected to get breakfast for their kids there. Selection all 5 days was the same: coffe, good juices, yogurt, about 6 different kinds of pastries, hard-boiled eggs, and mixed […] fruit. No ceral, no bagels or bread, nothing hot. Also, cable was out or malfunctioning for 2 fukll days and no compensation was offered or provided. Again, I felt for the families with children..........Also, Jazz advertised on Saturday night was not there, but most poelpe would oprobabaly rather fidn their entertainment andmeals someplace else than on the premises. Though it was a rainy weekend we still enjoyed our stay playing between the raindrops. The island inn is a great place to stay because of its location on Sanibel Island.

I booked this hotel based on the other reviews I read. Although the location was great, the hotel felt a bit run down. The room was very clean but the beds were really uncomfortable and the fridge was very rusty and chipping. It was fine for 1 night but I wouldn't stay there for any longer than that. A great quiet place to really, really relax .

The beach, grounds and small pool are fine. It was great to have a bar and restaurant on site. We booked a "deluxe seaview room with kitchenette." It was tiny and we needed a crib so there was barely a passage around the beds. The kitchenette was a small fridge, sm microwave and sm coffee maker. Our hotel was located in a perfect location, right on the Gulf. It was clean and very casual. The entertainment in the restaurant was very good - a male piano player and a woman guitar player - I forget their names! Everyone was very outgoing and helpful. The front office even had a tide chart for finding the best time to go shelling. There was even […] a building where we could wash our treasured shells we found on the beach! Very enjoyable "old Florida" inn. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the inn and grounds were clean, the location was great. We will return and we will bring friends!

There are fancier hotels, but we like this one for it's charm. It feels like a proper, old-fashioned beach resort. Staff was great and the restaurant was quite good, although the breakfast buffet was a disappointment during the week.

A nice and well maintained beach front hotel. The room and surroundings are clean and well maintained. Our room had a full kitchen and two double beds. I would recommend the owners to upgrade the bathroom hardware and better position the toilet paper holder. I recommend renting bikes and going all the way to the lighthouse. Our room had kitchenette; utensils missing. Where were they? Most rooms nowadays have a small kit included...toothpaste+brush; missing. Overall, all was great; would recommend to travelers.

Hotel situated next to quiet beach on Gulf coast. Great location for our brief 2 day stop while travelling in Florida,

Spacious room with double beds and a pull out sofa in one of the several small, motel-like buildings on the large compound. The on-site restaurant, Traditions, which is open to the public, specializes in Italian dishes. A continental breakfast was included. There are rental bikes available but you can get much better rates and a greater variety of bikes […] at Billy's Rentals on Periwinkle. The Island Inn was the first on Sanibel, and it's a good place to unwind and step back into time. There is only one computer available for guest use and a posted sign says it can take up to five minutes to print out boarding passes. Continua a leggere

The description that hotel.com gives you on there webpage is not the same. You will get something different. The lady at the front office told me that they have told hotel.com numerous time to change the descriptions of certain rooms.

The restaurant at Island Inn was the best in the area. We ate a wonderful grouper dinner followed by the best key lime pie ever! I stayed at Island Inn 20 years ago, and the Inn looks better than ever. Grounds and buildings are well cared for, and all had a fresh coat of paint. I will be sure to return as often as I can.

Other than the fact that the walls were paper thin, the hotel was great. Perfect location. Renovations in progress therefore quite noisy and on a CA time-zone sleeping pattern, I was not thrilled to wake up so early!

Went just for two nights for a get away before our first child arrives. Was very peaceful and relaxing. Had trouble with the lock like a lot of people but it was taken care of right away. Everyone was friendly and while the pool isn't very big it was very clean. Bring some noseeum spray they charge $10 at the hotel I'm sure you can get it much cheaper […] but it does help a lot with the bugs on the beach. Continua a leggere

much of it was being renovated. Not really a big distraction . Unfortunately it rained or was cloudy most of our stay (September). It was finally sunny on the morning we had to leave. What a gem! Stayed in hotel room. Got a free upgrade to King size room. Extended our stay because we loved it so! Staff were wonderful. Couldn't beat it with the gulf, beach and pool. Would come back for sure. Great value for the price and amenities.

Room was clean and spacious with a great balcony overlooking the grounds. Right next to the water and we loved it. However, 2 days later, the itching began. At first we thought mosquito because they are definitely around but the mosquito bites disappeared and we were left a 20-30 bites throughout our body which 4 days later we are still scratching. […] At first we were not sure because we never had them, but after research, yep, bed bugs. I was pleasantly surprised with this inn, especially with it being the oldest on the island. However, the room in Kimball Lodge was modern with kitchen space, large closet, nice bathroom, flat screen TV w/DVD player and cable, comfortable beds and great screened in porch. The room would be great for anyone staying for a long weekend. The inn is steps […] away from the beach with plenty of lawn chairs. The inn reception staff was very pleasant and helpful. The other guests were also friendly and nice. Plenty of parking space, close to the buildig. The property was well maintained and clean. I highly recommend and would definitely visit again. Are party had reserved a room with a full kitchen. Now everyone knows if a resort, hotel, motel offers a room with a full kitchen that the customers will most likely be cooking and eating in there rooms. The problem was there was no table and chairs to eat on in the room. And no one wants to eat hot food outside in 95 plus degrees. All we found (a day […] later) was a tiny fold up card table in the closet. I guess they want you to rearrange the furniture chairs every time you eat , which we did but they where way to short. So we all just had to eat on the beds, it was a pain. Owners need to think about these things. Don't get me wrong i love this place everyone had a an awesome time and i will return. We stayed at the Island Inn for 2 nights. The location was great right on the beach. The room was decent size, we had a kitchen suite so there was a queen bed on one side of the room and kitchen, tv and sleeper sofa on the other. Great view of the beach and pool. The carpet was pretty dirty but wasn't too big of a deal. However, the sleeper sofa was […] an oversized chair that pulled in to a twin bed. It was very uncomfortable and the chair itself was dirty. There was a cigarette hole on one side and large stain on the other. The staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean but not fancy. Refrigerator, stove and microwave is a nice feature for making one's own lunches/dinners in order to spend maximum time on the beach. The Island Inn has been in operation since 1895, and if you're looking for a contemporary, upscale place to stay at Sanibel, this isn't it. This is really what Sanibel was like before developers took over. But the good old days are necessarily that great, in retrospect. The newest structure is from the '50s, and everything about the place seems tired […] and dingy. Upside: Walk from your room to the beach, centrally located on the island, nice walk-in tiled shower. I've been to Sanibel/Captiva probably 20 times and have read articles about the Inn and ridden bikes past it many, many times. We decided to give it a try this time. It's a nice place. It's a bit tired and in need of some updating....but...overall....it has a "happy, homey" feel to it. It reminds me of places we stayed back in the early 1970s. I think […] it's a bit pricey given the condition (and I've stayed at probably more than a dozen different places from Casa Ybel to the Tween Waters Inn to South Seas Plantation) but I'd probably stay again. My husband, 2 sons, mother in law and my parents stayed for 3 nights at the Island Inn. It had been many years since my parents have stayed on the island, and they were quite surprised with the beauty of the island and accomodations available. The hotel is very unique, with the variuos buildings and cottages, very welcoming for families, a nice meeting […] place for gatherings. The beach is beautiful, millions and billions of seashells. On our last day there we saw dolphin swiming just offshore of the beach. One recommendation I would make is to rent the bicycles, we also rented one for my husband and 4 year old, I forgot the name :(. This is great way to explore the island, we actually did it in the evening, not much traffic, the skies were clouding so not too hot either, very nice breeze. The Seashell museum is also a must do to add to your list and Bailey's Market for groceries. I recommend reserving a room with a full kitchen so that way you can cook your own meals and save $$$. I hear that the Bubble Room is a very good choice for Captiva Island dining. The Island Inn is a very good location, with a nice staff, and daily continental breakfast, a very down to earth feel. The hotel was established over 100 years ago.....very historic, you will be a part of that history for years to come. Enjoy!!! Continua a leggere

We loved the location... The beach is beautiful. The hotel is fine... the rooms were ok (beach place), but the breakfast was terrible.. every day the same thing and bad quality. They had 3 kinds of pastry (the same everyday) and apples... We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are in process of being remodeled but ours was already updated and very comfortable. Staff was excellent. Complimentary breakfast wasn't much so we bought our own breakfast food and the hotel resuarant looked really pricey so we went elsewhere to eat. Location was excellent.

My daughter and I spent a long weekend at the Island Inn June 10 through June 12, 2011 and were very pleased with the room and staff and enjoyed the bar/restaruant, Traditions, which is not part of the hotel, but on the grounds. The beach was beautiful and the hotel provided beach chairs for the beach, as well as a continential breakfact at Traditions. […] Tennis courts, a pool and bicycles are available as well as other play things. We were expecting a charming older resort, by the sea, but were disappointed in everything but location. we had a room that needed updating as well as a carpet cleaning. It included a bedroom/ sitting area and small kitchen and no private outside area or balcony as we had enjoyed in other similar resorts. The breakfast consisted of cold cereals and […] frozen pastries when homemade sticky buns has been advertised. The staff was nice but not helpful when it came to beach umbrellas at additional cost and their set-up. I thought the location was good, easy access to the water and lots of shelling. But the inn was rundown, needs updating, uncomfortable location of accessing toilet paper in the bathroom and the so called free breakfast was very disappointing.

The room was a bit dated and the grounds are clearly very old. What was annoying is when we arrived they charged us a 10 fee for each child we had for the included breakfast??? then when we went to breakfast the next day it was cold cereal and some muffins. (for 10 dollars!). So the mandatory 10 dollar "complimentary" breakfast was not worth it. its […] all about location and the beach which was beautiful but i would not like a prolonged stay there. Me and my girlfriend stayed here for her birthday weekend, and couldn't have had a better time. This was my first visit to Sanibel Island while she has been coming since she was kid. I didn't know what to expect but couldn't have been happier with the Inn. When you drive up the first the you notice is how expansive the property is, multiple cottages, […] two separate lodges, swimming pool, horseshoe area, croquet field, shuffle board, tennis courts, and of course a few second walk to the ocean and the Inn's private beach. It's possible you may never leave the Inn at all there is so much to do! The rooms are in the process of all being updated, and we were lucky to stay in one that had, it was nicely done with Florida style furniture and all new tiling in the bathroom. Great gulf views from the porch, and of course the always there cool sea breeze. The staff couldn't have been nicer, we had odd reservations because we wanted to stay an extra day so had to switch rooms in the middle of our stay, but they accommodated us and made the process painless. They also arranged bike rentals, and always had a good suggestion for places to go and see. I could go on and on, but just take my word you will enjoy your stay here, we are already trying to take time to visit again. Continua a leggere
