small nice guesthouse on the beach. receptionist was very helpful and friendly, but after our first night the receptionist changed to another person ( she was not cooperative at all, and always find excuses).However, The bartender and the DJ outside were very friendly and nice. Had a great time. This is a relatively small, gated, upscale community with no high rises. Hotel is right on the beach. entry is only through main gate; push button to engage remote guard and get gate opened if you are staying at the hotel. Being right on the beach was a joy. The Hotel is quite lovely. The Hotel floor need to be redone and polished. Wifi should be available in the room not just on the lobby. Overall if you are only going to send a few days at this location it a great place to stay.

I wasn't a big fan of this hotel and waa glad we only stayed one night. The lobby and bar/restaurant are cute, but the rooms are in major need of an upgrade (missing towel bars, rusty tub, king bed was actually two twin beds pushed together, room overall felt damp/not comfortable). The restaurant and bar are pretty pricey, and there are no vending machines […] on premesis so you have to pay $3.25 for a warm bottle of water from the room's mini bar. There is no wi fi except extremely slow service in the lobby. If you have a car, the surrounding area is totally frustrating - parking is limited to the street and it's not easy to find a spot. Additionally, the entire neighborhood is gated off and it's really tough to get in and out. Lastly, we came back to the hotel late (around 2am) on a Friday night and everything was locked up. We had to wait outside knocking on the lobby door while the receptionist at the desk just watched us. After prolonged knocking, she finally got up and grouchily let us in. Rude! Overall it was good. We had such a difficult time trying to enter the hotel. Directions or address need to be clear on hotels.com . Because it is a gated community, the only way you can enter is thru Calle Santa Ana not Calle Tapia. Hotels .com should provide the correct number to the hotel. That was our last day on our trip and because of the time […] we wasted trying to enter the hotel we could not enjoy the beach. They also had a cat sitting on a chair in the lobby. I would rate this place as a 1 only because it had a roof. Breakfast was 10 blocks away. No hot water heated by solar. TV's did not work.

I only needed the room for one night and took this one because it was a reasonable rate, ocean front in the Ocean Park neighborhood. From the photos it looked basic. HOTEL IS BEING REMODELLED. ROUGH AROUND EDGES. PLUSES WERE QUIET GATED--AT NIGHT-- AREA, BEACH LOCATION, EXCELLENT MATTRESS AND FLAT SCREEN TV WITH LOTS OF CHANNELS. NEGATIVES WERE LIMITED. A lovely tropical and Thai fusion decor. The staff were extremely friendly and eager to help. The hotel was right on the beach with plenty of seating and mingling areas that were cozy and inviting. At night it had a romantic ambiance with candles and lights. A DJ provided music throughout the day and into the early evening. This is the second time we stay at this hotel. The first time we stayed in the ocean view with the balcony in the room and we had a great time. This time we stay in a regular room but I have to say the experience wasn't the same. They had us in the first room right in front of the deck next to the bar/restaurant it was very noisy and they had construction […] starting at 7am. You could hear everything. Apart from all the noise the room was alright. I would recommend you bring extra towels for the beach. The food is a bit overpriced and not that good. There's a really good restaurant called Mango's just a couple of blocks away which is awesome. I love the fact the beach is right behind the hotel and not as crowded. It kind of makes it feel like a private beach. Very relaxing. And the staff for the most part are friendly. The beach is beautiful. There is no wifi,refrigerator, or blowdryer in the room. Not much to.do.in the evening. Your in a gated area and not much to do. Good if your looking to read a book and just relax. This could be a nice romantic getaway. Restaurant is expensive. Overall the beach is beautiful and staff is friendly.

The beds were soft and clean, you have 24 hour access to the beach and tv had good channels. However,I stayed 3 nights and never had hot water for a shower. I was told on cloudy days the sun doesn't heat the water. The floors stayed sandy and their was no mats or rugs to keep your feet clean. Several of the electrical outlets did not work and light […] bulbs were missing. If you stay here expect beauty but not the same as US hotels and get a room with microwave and fridge and expect cool showers. I arrived for a week stay to find my room to be small and claustrophobic. I tried to take a shower and a thin stream of cold water came out . I opened the hot water and not even air came out. I complained and was told that the hotel was an ECO friendly hotel. How does that explain no water? Next day I demanded to be given another room. This was ok. […] I am from that town and have known this place for decades. I thought it was kept in better shape. It looks weathered, old and in desperate need of renovation. The water went off twice in the hotel, the staff told us we could go outside to take a shower in our bathing suits if we would like. Then the cold water went off 2-3 times. Perfect location for a quiet get-away. Far enough away from the crowd yet close enough to get to Old San Juan in a matter of 10-15 minutes. Staff was very accomodating, courteous and friendly. After speaking with other guests it was noted […] that many would have stayed on location for the lunch and/or dinner, however, prices forced them to other locations. With that being said, the burger at lunch was awesome but not worthy of the $14-$15 price...and dinner again was terrific, however, $30 for a rib-eye with no salad and small side dish seems extreme. no hot water, no water pressure, no quiet sleep at night, rooms were dirty, views were underwhelming, beach is packed with rowdy locals, neighborhood was bad and overall this hotel doesn't care about their guests. First off, let me say that the staff at Hosteria del Mar are some of the friendliest folks I encountered on the island. And the hotel itself is tastefully decorated and the beach is beautiful. There were a number of issues though during our week stay. One: noise - if you stay on the ground floor, this hotel is very noisy. Two: basic functions - during […] our week we experienced electricity outages, brown water from the sink, no water, cable outages and though the rooms were clean and comfortable, I was hoping for a bar of soap. Three: restaurant issues - the menu is short and expensive and two out of every three items were not available. No milk for breakfast, out of eggs, out of bacon, out of juice. What we were served each time was tasty and well prepared but I wonder who does the shopping. Four: location - this hotel is totally isolated in a residential area and is surrounded by a neighborhood that is locked up with bars all over. If you are walking (I didn't have a rental car) you have to go MANY blocks out of your way to get to and fro because of all the locked streets. Taxis have to do this too. You can walk on the beach but it's not near anything so you have to walk a ways. Summary: this is a great place to go and stay put if you plan to eat on your own and have a rental car. It's also popular for weddings because it's beautiful. If you have kids, I do not recommend taking them here. Continua a leggere

One of a kind! Hidden in a gated community, directly on the beach. Smelled amazing, decor authentic. Opposite of a chain hotel. Customer service was exceptional.

This is an amazing little boutique hotel right on the beach. Even though we didn't have an "ocean view room," you could look out our window and certainly see the ocean. The beach and hotel are quiet (it's in a gated community), and the people who work there are some of the friendliest folks that I've run across. Also, be sure to check out the restaurant […] and bar. The hotel was in a lovely neighborhood right on the beach. They have a very nice ambiance in the lobby and restaurant. The staff was very friendly. Our only complaint was our room. We felt as though we were in a prison cell. It "smelled" clean because they had just bleached the floors but in all the cold old floors were gritty and just old. We felt […] like were in a recliner with our bed because the mattress was higher for our feet then then our heads. We had room #1... the music to the lobby and bar was so loud we couldn't hear the tv and there ended up being a fist fight outside our "so called window"!! When in Condado, San Juan, this hotel is certainly one to consider. I got a room with the balcony facing the ocean and it was well worth it. It's not a fancy place but for the price it is clean and comfortable. The parking is on the street but it is a secured/gated neighborhood so never felt unsafe or that the car would be in danger. The restaurant […] that is in the hotel is tasty and very romantic, facing the ocean. It is also just a few blocks walking to the famous Kasalta bakery which should not be missed. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Our room wasn't ready so we were offered a free upgrade. The next morning we were offered a free breakfast. The neighborhood is in a gated community and not very easy to find from the highway.
