Eccellente rapporto qualità/prezzo (va considerato che beneficiavamo di una super-promozione riservata al periodo in cui siamo state noi, la prima settimana di marzo): hotel semplice ma carino e molto pulito, con pulizia giornaliera delle camere molto accurata; nonostante il bagno in comune non abbiamo mai dovuto fare code nè trovato il bagno in cattive condizioni. Anche la posizione è davvero l'ideale: vicinissimo a Central Park, a due passi dalla fermata della metro e da quella dell'autobus, con i quali è possibile raggiungere qualsiasi punto di Manhattan. Unico neo: ascensore rotto....e noi eravamo al quinto piano! Assolutamente consigliato!

Il prezzo è certamente competitivo. La location è strategica. Il servizio è però scadente: i bagni sono in comune per una decina di stanze ed includono 1 lavandino, wc e vasca-doccia. Le stanze sono piccole (senza lavandino) e poco pulite. Segnalo (sperando che si trattasse un'eccezione) che ho dovuto cambiare stanza nottetempo, abbandonando il letto pieno di insetti. Non lo suggerisco.

Per chi non vuole spendere molto ma nemmeno trovarsi in qualche bettola. L'hotel è pulito, in una stradina silenziosa(anche se a NY la strada più silenziosa è comunque un pò rumorosa), le camere pulite e con i confort necessari per chi in Hotel deve solo dormirci dopo aver visitato la città...Unico problema i bagni in comine sul piano (1 per 4/5 stanze) in quanto se si hanno gli orari "usuali" degli altri puoi trovarlo spesso occupato....Se si hanno orari leggermente diversi(per esempio si è ragazzi e si esce alle 11 della mattina per tornare all'1.00 di notte) il problema è quasi inesistente e nonostante il bagno sia usato da più persone è sempre pulito!

Grazioso hotel. Pulito e confortevole. Unico neo il bagno, condiviso con quattro, cinque stanze e molto piccolo.

The hotel is in a good position (near the subway only 20 min from Times Square). The room was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. We had the room with the shared bathroom, but usually it was clean (the staff clean it many times a day). So it's not the Hilton but it's OK for the price. The only thing worryingly was the black cockroach trap under the bed but, as you know, prevent is better then cure...

Difficile trovare meglio a questo prezzo. L'Hotel non è in posizione centralissima ma c'è la stazione della metro a 200 mt. e in 10 minuti siete a Times Square. Avevo prenotato una camera col bagno in comune e avevo timore. Devo dire che la camera non era grandissima comunque pulita e il bagno appena fuori era sempre perfetto grazie ad un servizio di pulizia costante e puntuale. Il personale alla reception era molto cordiale e disponibile. Al piano terra c'è possibilità di connessione ad internet.

L'hotel è semplice e carino ma soprattutto pulitissimo, anche i bagni in comune vengono puliti in continuazione. La nostra camera era particolarmente fortunata, al settimo piano, con vista sui tetti di fronte. Uno storno veniva sempre a svegliarci alle 7 del mattino! Il personale è gentile e disponibile. Non viene servita la colazione, solo caffè. Per la connesssione a internet si paga 1 dollaro per 10 minuti. Molto vicino alle linee 1, 2 e 3 per downtown e Brooklyn e a Central Park.

Personale: disponibile e gentile. Camera: dimensioni modeste, letto per una doppia ad una piazza e mezzo, finestra con vista muro dell'hotel adiacente con tanto di vista diretta in camera di alcuni ospiti!!! Pulizia in camera: quotidiana con cambio di asciugamani Bagno:nessuna fila, pulizia decente, una volta trovato inagibile. Posizione: molto buona (stazione metro e bar per ottime colazioni vicini)

arrivati ci rendiamo conto che la camera è senza bagno. per non perdere tutto restiamo anche perchè alla reception dicono che il giorno dopo si libera una delle pochissime stanze con il bagno. il giorno dopo la persona è cambiata, e in modo strafottente e irritante nega che sia libera una camera con bagno. l'albergo nel complesso sarebbe carino e pulito ma la condivisione del bagno (spesso occupato) va bene per chi ha uno spirito da ostello della gioventù.

Confortevole "budget hotel" in NYC - Manhattan - Zona Upper West Side a pochi passi dal Central Park (Fermata Metro 1, 2, 3 altezza 96th). La stanza doppia nella quale ho soggiornato era pulita, sufficientemente ampia, dotata di TV, aria condizionata e 2 vani per riporre i bagagli; erano presenti 2 bagni comuni sul corridoio con un frequente servizio di pulizia (primo turno alle 08:00 e successivi nel corso della mattinata); in ogni caso l'hotel e' dotato di stanze leggermente piu' costose con bagno privato. L'hotel e' inoltre dotato di sala comune a piano terrra con macchina del caffe'/te' (gratis), distributori di bevande e snack (a pagamento), connessione internet (a pagamento), ascensore e servizio di portineria H24. E' inoltre possibile approfittare di offerte scontate soprattutto nel periodo invernale (il sottoscritto ha approfittato di una offerta pari al 30% di sconto). Il giudizio complessivo e' positivo: un bun rapporto qualita'/prezzo.

un solo piccolo bagno da dividere con 4 camere matrimoniali(8 persone)sono veramente pochi e scomodi.Alla reception tutti tranne uno,si preoccupavano solo delle formalita burocratiche e non erano disponibili alle richieste.Ad es.chiamata taxi,sostituzione toner esaurito all'internet point che avevo pagato e per cui non era possibile stampare i ticket acquistati via internet per il teatro,atteggiamento sgarbato e disinteressato del personale.Assenza di servizio bar,macchina per acquisto bevande sempre scarica,soprattutto la notte.Nessuna informazione su come si deve utilizzare l'ebollitore caffè.

La stanza era piccina, ma ordinata e pulita (cambio lenzuola e asciugamani giornaliero!), con aria condizionata. il bagno in comune in realtà era per lo più sempre libero e in ordine. noi giravamo tutto il giorno e per dormire lo troviamo una sistemazione dignitosa, comoda alla metro, il personale gentile l'unica difficoltà è stata prolungare una notte... abbiamo sovuto farlo via internet a un prezzo più alto del resto del soggiorno, poichè alla receprion non accettavano prenotazioni dirette.

The building was pretty well kept, even if the rooms are scruffy and need to be updated. The staff is nice, and if you need to be in the 90s on the UWS it's okay. I'd do it again maybe. But my real complaint was that I had a room right by the doorway, and it was people slamming the steel door all night. Relentless. Other people complained I guess too, because the second day there was a sign on the door, and I hadn't said anything.

Great location. And that is all this place has to recommend it. The room was such a filthy carpet, it was scary. The music in the lobby is mind numbingly loud even at 7 am, which was when I checked out after one night. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. But the condition of the rooms is just so awful there's nothing they can do to make it better. It is exactly what I imagine being locked in a prison cell would be like. Don't do it.

Having read the reviews and secured a reduced rate, I was quite accepting that it was going to be "cheap and cheerful". That would have been fine, except they also proved more or less incompetent. Upon arrival I checked in and looked in my room to find that it was being renovated (black plastic, power tools, exposed fittings, etc.). When I returned to the desk to report this the staff member at first seemed not to believe me, but then relented and went searching for another room. She wasn't able to find one of the same type I had booked, and began to explain to me that there weren't any rooms, but after speaking to the supervisor they reluctantly agreed to put me in a larger room with 2 beds. So far, so good. The room itself was basic, but clean and good value for what it was: no complaints there. I went out into New York the next day, and upon returning later I took the elevator up to my room, and found the card wouldn't let me in. Returning to the lobby, I showed my ID & booking reference, and the staff member re-keyed my cards. I went back up and entered the room, to find all my belongings missing! After a few seconds the phone rang, and the staff member called me back down. Apparently what had happened was that during the day a 1-bed room had become available, so the hotel had taken it upon themselves to move me into that room, but then not bothered to let me know this was the case. I was confused, because he kept referring to a room number which wasn't either of the ones they'd put me in, and he started to raise his voice and then talk slowly to me so I'd be able to understand, which I thought was unecessary and quite insulting. When I was describing to the supervisor how displeased I was about having my belongings moved without any permission or prior consultation, he indignantly informed me that I had only paid for a 1-bed room, and they had done me a favour by putting me in a 2-bed for the first night. So far as I've found so far there's nothing missing

Okay for price. No hot water for showering in our room. Very small room, but great location for us. Would not stay there again but it could be a good value for some.

Quiet, clean, safe hotel with good service. Not fancy, but great considering the area. Great deal if you just plan to be in NYC to enjoy the city and just need a place to sleep.

Although the hotel is located in an excellent neighborhood and close to public transportation and cultural/business/university places, it needs an urgent interior renovation (furniture outdated and carpet worn out). I rented a bedroom with private bathroom and I paid an extra for this convenience . Although I did not expect the interiors of a 3,4,5,6 star hotel, I expected a better reception area and a better bedroom (furniture, carpet, electronics, bedding). Minor expenses that will help the hotel offer a better service.

I was completely shocked when I arrived at the hotel to discover that there were community showers/baths--perhaps I overlooked that in the hotel description. Although subway stations are close, the location is only close to Central Park. The bathroom had only one shower and toilet and the water was cold. The elevator was extremenly small and could fit only 2 people with luggage at once, so it took forever for the elevator. We checked out of the hotel after only one night--it was that bad! Worth spending a little more to stay in Times Square or somewhere that actually has a shower and bath in the room. Was very dissapointed.

Good location, however, crummy condition, poor upkeep, bad mattress.

Pictures are very deceiving. The room reeked, bed and bedding was old and uncomfortable. Room was 9x9, very small, dirty carpet! Shared bathrooms with other guest on floor. Rip off!

Can't say exactly why this hotel didn't cut it with me. I've stayed at many other places similar, but this one struck me as a lonely place. It was clean, quiet (except for some external hotel noise that every room was exposed to), but still didn't feel welcoming.

The bathrooms and bedrooms where very dirty and the smell of the rooms was horrible. overall the hotel needs major remodeling and the carpet was nasty.

The room was clean and very comfortable. I enjoyed my stay there.

For the amount paid on this hotel, service was above. Located in a quiet neighberhood and conveniently near the broadway and 96th st.

The price was very low for the expensive area of Manhattan it is located. The room was cheaply priced but very small. The bathroom was communal. However, it was very clean. Room service opened the door at 10AM despite there being a do not disturb sign on the door.

I could not make the shower working (there seems no switch for that). Since I didn't bother to call for help (since I only stay for one night). For the price, it's an acceptable place to stay.

I enjoyed my stay here. The room was quite small, but efficient. There was no private bath, but shared baths, which were kept immaculately cleaned and stocked. The area was convenient to transit and the staff was courteous and professional.

Our room was great! And we only had to wait for the bathroom down the hall once. We did have a little trouble checking out because we had to leave early on a Saturday morning (about 6:30 a.m.) to make an appointment and had trouble finding the front desk clerk because he tends to disappear for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. Just as we were about to leave our key at the front desk and dash out the door, he appeared and we were able to check out. (Just make sure you allow enough time, in case you have to wait a few minutes for him to return.)

This hotel has a great location in the upper westside Manhattan. Its about two blocks from the subway and walking distance to Central Park. Next time i go i will ask for a room away from the fire doors that seperate the rooms from the stairs/elevator. They are quite noisy as people pass through them.

This is quite elegant into comparison to the Widget Hotel a block away with comparable rates! I stayed at the Widget two years ago and there's NOTHING nice about it! I got into a bathroom every time I needed one. There's two bathrooms for every 10 rooms. Europan is a great closeby restaurant. There's many grocery stores nearby and two drug stores.

A recent stay at Hotel Alexander was marred by an unfortunate incident. After spending the day site seeing I returned to my room and prepared for bed. I prepared to shower and noticed that my towel was stained. I called down to the front desk and the clerk was quite unhelpful, bordering on rude. Long story short, I ended up drying off with a hand towel. The next day new towels were brought and they were clean. Upon returning home I emailed the hotel and received an apology. I understand that a stained towel could slip through the cracks, but the clerk's behavior was not acceptable. The follow up by the hotel has been good so I would imagine that my negative incident was the exception to the rule at Hotel Alexander. Other than that the room was fine. Not exquisite by any stretch, but certainly acceptable for the price. It was in a wonderful location on the Upper West Side very close to the subway, the Hudson River Park and Central Park. I will consider staying at Hotel Alexander again, as should you.

Good price. Good location. Ok for 1 or 2 days stay. Not more than that. Close to 96 ST metro. 2 Blocks away.

Hotel is close to the metro and in a good neighborhood. However, the mattress was about what you would expect for the price and the room was a little loud.

The hotel has no parking however there is a garage right across that goes for about $35 dollars a day. Be careful if you park in front of the hotel on the street because they clean between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm and they will give you a ticket. Hotel room was tight but clean. No bugs. Room could use more heating. Bathroom is shared which makes me uncomfortable but it had the appearance of being clean however the smell was bad. There is one elevator and it is quite small. We were three people and not one more fit in there. Hotel is two blocks from the subway so that was convenient. During the day and night the hotel is pretty quiet. All and all ... it served its purpose.

The elevator didnt work, and i was on the sixth floor. I needed three rooms to get one that had a tv that turned on. The biggest thing was the communal bathroom. No private bathroom.

If you are looking for a fancy, lavish, upscale, or a modern hotel, this place is not for you. If all you need is a bed and safe place to keep your stuff while you are away seeing the city, this is the perfect place for you. This hotel isn't really "nice". That is just because it is an older building that hasn't really been modernized. They have done some renovations to the hotel, just not in the guest rooms. This hotel is clean, but it is just old. For the price and the location you can't beat it. The only drawback was that the elevator wasn't working during our stay. They are in the process of "modernizing" it. But that wasn't really to much of a problem for a pair of 20 year old legs to go up 7 floors. If you are on a budget and you plan on spending most of your time out in the city then I highly recommended this hotel for you. It is cheap, clean, and most importantly in a safe neighborhood.

the hotel was exactly what you can expect from a 1 1/2 star hotel. Things were clean in the lobby, the bathrooms were clean but they had chipped tubs and chipped toilet seats. my bed had a long black hair in it, some crubs etc so i never slept in it. we ended up getting an upgrade to the 4th floor since the first room we were in was next to some screaming people. Con: the elevator was broken so we had to walk everytime and the stairs were super super tiny. Other than that, there is free wireless downstairs, the towels were fresh both days of our stay and the maids cleaned the bathrooms daily. It was in the nice neighborhood of the upper east side, but a 15 min subway ride and a $20 cab ride to soho/the village area.
