People should be aware that the rooms open out into the parking lot, so if you aren't comfortable with a motel like that don't stay there. The web site fails to show you that. The initial room we got, the bathroom smelled of urine and the toilet had a moldy water ring. The desk clerk was very polite and professional and got us into another room. We stayed 2 nights for an athletic event at OSU. The price was reasonable, the room very clean, and the bed extremely comfortable. It was just minutes from everywhere we wanted to go in and around OSU. The one negative was being awakened several times each night by loud guests out in the parking lot. The room was clean but outdated, I had to wait two and half hours after check in time to get a room because there were none cleaned from the night before. Lock on door was broke, television did't work, shower was broken. definitely not worth the twenty dollars I saved by booking there and not somewhere else. "Nothing more than an older Motel, don't be fooled!"
The pictures on line make it look like an actual hotel "Inn" when in fact it is nothing more than a motel. It showed that it had a fitness facility when in fact there was one elliptical, one stationary bike and a broken treadmill. The was no TV, nothing to clean down the equipment and the towels were not replaced. Although it appeared there were recent […] renovations in the room (decor, fixtures in the room) the bathroom was not included in with the renovations. The pictures on the site make it look wonderful when in fact it was old and run down on the outside and somewhat on the inside. I also requested a fridge and microwave and when I arrived there wasn't one in the room and I was not able to get one until the next day. The reviews for this hotel have gone down since I booked my stay. It was the weekend of the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, and I don't think the hotel staff had ever experienced that much traffic. "Wonderful, In Spite of Other Reviews!"
I've read some of the other negative reviews, but we had a very positive experience. Stayed two nights, with great customer service. The room was clean and it was quiet. "An acceptable budget hotel"
Overall this was an acceptable budget hotel. Nothing fancy about it, but did job. Our room was clean and well kept, staff was friendly, and it was in a quiet location. The biggest nuisance we dealt with was the strong smell of mold in the room--especially the bathroom and the sink areas. Fortunately we didn't spend much time in the room, making it a […] minor issue, but it would have made things a bit uncomfortable if we had planned to hang out in the room for long periods of time. Other than the smell of mold, the room was in good condition and the beds were comfortable. There are a handful of restaurants within a 10 minute walk which was convenient. The hotel is conveniently located a couple minutes from the Ohio State University campus. Acrtually, we didn't stay - we left after our event at The Schott because my husband didn't want to stay there because it just wasn't up to his standards of cleanliness. The Varsity Inn North was our base of operations for four nights on a visit to our home town. It's very conveniently located and is minutes from most central Columbus destinations. If your reason for visiting is in Upper Arlington, Grandview, Clintonville, or any area related to the north central part of the city you won't find anything as quick at […] this price. Staff was friendly and courteous. Room was very basic but comfy and the place couldn't hurt from remodel but I'd imagine the price would spike. I'd stay there again. Not a sidewalk area but you can walk to a very good Mexican restaurant called El Vaquero or Rooster's Wings. They're both 100 yards away. Other than that you have to hope in the car.
