"Great Venice Location"
This is a lovely hotel with the usual charm of old European hotels. It is centrally located and easy to find-which is not always the case with Venice hotels. "Excellent San Marco Location / But"
Hotel Location is excellent for walking through most of Venice without the need to cross the Grand Canal. Reception staff is cold at best, almost disdainful at worst - but you have to accept a 4 star in Venice is not what you think. The hotel is generally clean, it is quite a pretty little hotel with convoluted corridors with steps here and there - […] so avoid if this is an issue. The room was cosy if not very pretty, the only issue was the smell of sewage when you come back in the evening, but that is not the hotel's fault it's the aqua alta season so all of venice smells bad (was there early november). All in all a good value for money if you want to avoid being out on the Lido. Continua a leggereRecensioni obiettive Hotels.com

"Great location for sites and sleep!"
Hotel staff was very helpful in a number of ways. The city has times when it floods making it impossible to go anywhere without high top boots. The staff loaned me a pair of boots and told me where I could buy some. They also were very helpful with directions, a minor toilet repair, and internet service. Very good location; extremely quiet at night; […] I would stay there again anytime (and hope to as soon as possible). Continua a leggereRecensioni obiettive degli ospiti Expedia
"Not a good experience."
Our room was good sized for a European hotel. And the location of the hotel was convenient to many Venice attractions. However, the mattress was uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. Additionally, the hotel did not have hot water for showers. We tried taking a shower at different times of the day to catch when they would have hot water, but the best it […] got was medium temperature for several minutes before it was freezing again. The shower and sink drains also stunk horribly and smelled up the room. The sewers could be a problem throughout the Venice, so that may not be the hotel's fault. However, for the price, we would not recommend this hotel. Continua a leggereRecensioni obiettive degli ospiti Expedia

"Wonderful hotel in a great area"
We just returned from Venice. We stayed at La Fenice for three nights on the recommendation of a colleague who stays there when she travels to Venice. We couldn't have been happier. It's a five-minute walk from San Marco, but it's tucked away in a quiet piazza, away from the crowds. "A lovely retreat for couples."
This quaint hotel took some finding down the narrow alleys but once found we were welcomed in warmly. The room had baroque style fabric covered walls with a Murano gtlass chandalier. The doors to each room featured a full length reprint of Klimt's 'The Kiss' which was interesting. The bathroom was well appointed and set slightly apart from the bedroom […] in what felt more like a small suite. The room itself looked across a small canal to the house opposite but it was fun listening to the gondolias passing by. The walls in the common areas are adorned with works of art. My only critism was the basic breakfast which was a cold, continental style buffet. This is what was advertised so no quibbles there just not brilliant quality. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room but if you were desperate you could buy one in the lobby bar. We would like to go back again sometime but will definitely be buying a much more comprehensive street map as none that we bought or were given bore any resemblence to the places we were trying to find! We stayed four nights. The staff were wonderfully friendly & helpful. The room was small but very pretty looking over Campo La Fenice, a really cute little square. "It does have air conditioning!"
I had stayed at La Fenice years ago when the mattresses were lumpy and it felt more like a pensione than a hotel. I'm happy to say the mattresses have improved! The furniture is still quaint and sparse, but the rooms do have air conditioning, which is a necessity in the hot months. The breakfast was adequate - yogurt is now there - but hard boiled eggs […] would be welcome as an alternative to rolls, two cereal choices, sliced ham and cheese. But nothing beats the location, which is close to San Marco, close to the Accademia, close to everything. And proximity to good shopping and dining is also there. "HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. HORRIBLE HOTEL."
I recently stayed here with my family and for a 4 star hotel, We had a 0 star experience. Firstly, we spent hours looking for the hotel in the scorching Venice heat with all our luggage because the hotel doesnt have any signs directing us to it's location. Second, When we final arrived the entrance to our suite was distasteful and depressing. The guy […] at the desk was also very rude and refused to give us directions to the nearest ferry. Also, theres no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby which is in a completely different building and it is only free for 15 minutes, so don't believe them When they say free wifi. Lastly, what completely ruined our experience was that my daughter found pubic hair all over one of the towels which we were really repulsed by. All in all, I DO NOT recommend this hotel AT ALL. Not much to say, except that the staff was great! I woke up late, after the complimentary breakfast was served and they still made me a great espresso and served me breakfast! You should take a look at the photos in the bar, Marcello Mastroiani, and other great celebrities […] have either stayed at the hotel or enjoyed the bar. Located just behind La Fenice Opera House, about 10-minute walk from San Marco, in the general direction of the Rialto Bridge. Desk staff is very friendly, available 24x7, speaks English. The rooms are very clean. Single room is small by American standards but quite comfortable: bed, desk, closet, TV, mini-fridge. Private bathroom with modern fixtures […] (shower, sink, toilet, bidet). The air conditioner is powerful and quiet. "A first class small hotel with a great location"
Although an old, well-established hotel, La Finece is very well maintained, very clean, and air conditioned-a must in the heat of the summer. The bathroom was small (shower only), but spotless. The room was larger than most we've had in Europe, particularly the British Isles. The staff were very friendly and helpful and their English was quite good. […] They provided excellent advice on tours and places to see (and importantly, how to get there). The vaporetto from Marco Polo Airport stopped about 100 yards from Piazza San Marco and it was an easy 10-12 minute walk to the hotel. It's around the corner from the Gran Teatro La Fanice, and many opera stars (including Pavarotti) have stayed at the hotel while performing at the Teatro (we saw "Carmen" our second night there). It's no more than a ten minute walk to the Rialto and Accademia bridges across the Grand Canal and to the Piazzo San Marco and its nearby museums, the Doge's Palace, and St. Mark's Basilica. Breakfast was typically continental, with items cooked to order for an extra charge. We can't recommend the hotel highly enough. Continua a leggereRecensioni obiettive degli ospiti Expedia

One of the most pleasing aspects of our stay ay La Fenice et des Artistes relates to the staff at the hotel who we found to be welcoming and efficient; one had the impression that nothing was too much trouble for them. The location of La Fenice et Des Artistes is excellent, in a little square next to the opera house, very close to St Mark's Square, […] yet in a peaceful haven away from the frenetic tourist spots. Our (superior) room had a large verandah overlooking a canal and we enjoyed watching the Gondoliers negotiating their way past down below, occasionally with a musical accompaniment. The decoration of the hotel has a sense of both history and personality, with pictures of noteable past guests and original works of contemporary art on display throughout the building. This added interest and made a refreshing change from the 'beige' interiors offered by some hotel chains. The breakfasts were pretty good, (lovely croissants) and the staff were happy for us to take a tray up to our room to enjoy a leisurely an intimate meal on our private terrace. The hotel isn't over-the-top romantic or super luxorious but is in a great location, offers a pleasant and interesting environment where everything works and offers a real sense of a home from home. "Very comfortable hotel with great character"
We enjoyed a large comfortable double bed in attractively furnished room, Decent sized clean bathroom with window too. The moment we arrived into our room we heard some music, and looked out our window to see […] some gondolas passing underneath us, complete with serenading tenor singer and accordian! Brilliant introduction to venice! Breakfast was good, could have benefitted from wider variety of breads/pastries and cereals. But yoghurts, meat, cheese, hot drinks all very tasty. Location very good - 5 mins to piazza san marco, less than 10 mins to rialto bridge. Bit tricky to find to start with in the maze of streets but thats the same everywhere in venice.
