It was obvious that they had updated a lower end hotel but it was clean and comfortable.

Great area to stay in SF. Great, safe area to walk around. Close, good restaurant on the corner. Free wine or beer next door when checking in. A little noisy on the street side during the day with the window open but it is much quieter at night and in the early morning than downtown hotels. Friendly manager, nice front desk person and convenient. I've stayed at other Joie de Vivre hotels and this was by far the worst maintained. The exterior was badly in need of painting and inside was tired, outdated (no, not trying to emulate a cooler period...just old) and the bathrooms were badly in need of maintenance (caulk was peeling or missing, […] a 1960's toilet, etc.). This was, in my opinion, not the staff's fault. The Joie de Vivre corporate people need to invest the capital to improve the hotel or give it back to the Holiday Inn people who obviously owned it before. The day manager was a gem though!! Basically a very nice, comfortable hotel. Decor nice, beds very comfortable. Location is very central & convenient to many tourist destinations. They have a nice coffee/tea/water service w/muffins & pastries in the morning. Fresh cookies & lemonade in the afternoon. To be more family friendly, hot chocolate packets would be nice for kids. Despite what […] I read online, they DO charge for parking at a rate of $20.00 per night. The parking is very convenient, however. We stayed 5 nights & on doing a search of the room when we were leaving, I found a pair of men's boxers under the bed near the wall of the headboard that weren't ours! That was bothersome & resulted in my lower score on room cleanliness. On a very positive note, the front staff were great. It was my young son's birthday & they surprised us w/a card & small gift. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was dated and the shower stall floor was all chipped. Staff was very nice.

Close to all the things I needed to do in Presidio area. Great size and comfortable room. Easy parking. Good coffee, drinks and cafe within the block!

We enjoyed our 2 nights at the Laurel Inn. We chose this hotel for the neighborhood, and were very pleased with the spacious, comfortable room. LOVED the croissants and coffee in the morning. Several bus lines are just outside the door of the hotel and we walked to the the California Academy of Sciences in GG Park one day. We would definitely book a […] return visit. Continua a leggere

I left my room between the hours of 7:30 & 9:30PM. During that time, someone entered my room & left a childs sing-a-long songs CD on the floor near the bed. I found it quite odd, but none of my personal belongings or technology (laptop, digital camera, touchpad) were taken. I alerted the manager the following morning upon checkout.

We enjoyed our stay here for 4 days. It is located very conveniently for our purposes during that visit. We enjoyed the fact that it is comfortably small and that there is always coffee and tea available in the lobby, as well as fresh warm cookies in the afternoon. There is also lemonade, but the spigot is so small, it takes very long to fill a cup. […] This is probably pre-planned so that the first 5 people don't use up all the lemonade in the first several minutes. And there is a two level small parking facility under the Inn which is marvelous. One slightly negative aspect was the fact that there was not enough lighting in the room, but I loved that it had 4 pillows on each bed. When we walked in after dark the first night, there was no light switch to turn on a ceiling light and we had to feel our way around the room (curtains were drawn) to find a lamp. In fact, there is no ceiling light at all. The maid service was very good and the housekeeper on our floor was exceedingly bright and cheerful. Except for the dirth of lighting in the room, everything was fine and we were quite pleased. One caution is that there is a bar below the first level rooms on the intersection side, and when we stayed there one other time, the noise from the happy people in the bar was difficult to take during the early morning hours. We stayed here over the holidays, as my brother has a home nearby. While there are some pluses to it, generally we were underwhelmed. The staff was ok. Always a nice hello, but not overly anxious to help, particularly a.m. staff. The room was well appointed, but had only a small heater. The hotel also had a bit of a smell too it. The 'breakfast' was […] muffins and croissants, reduced to bagels on Christmas a.m. Coffee was available 24-7 and while it was good coffee, there was only non-dairy creamer powder (ycch). There is parking that i believe is free (we didn't have car) and I believe they take pets (maybe thats why there's a bit of a smell.) The price was ok, but unless you really want to be in that neighborhood, I suspect there are way better options in SF. Continua a leggere

I would rate the service overall as Excellent

We usually stay in Union Square area. This neighborhood was new to us but very close to people we were visiting. Neat neighborhood, near Presidio and Lyon Steps for walking. Movie around The corner. Eclectic shops. Quiet at night.

Was a very comfortable hotel with very friendly staff. Very accommodating and go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Cookies and coffee in the lobby is a nice touch. Self parking in 2 garages was very convenient.

It was a wonderful place to stay with my dog while in SF

I enjoyed staying at Laurel Inn. It is a neat little hotel in a nice neighborhood in the Presidio area. I was in SFO for a conference at the Moscone center and I was able to hop onto a bus right across from the hotel for a quick 15 minute ride into Union Square. The hotel staff are very courteous and helpful in getting yellow cabs if needed. Rooms were […] very clean. This hotel does not have any A/C but has a fan that is just enough for most of the months in SFO. There is a nice little place across from the hotel as well where good breakfast is available. The hotel service was very friendly and accomodating. Not far from major tourist areas. Nice restaurants around the hotel. The only minor concern was that you could hear the guest on the room immediately above mine walking around. Other than that, I had a nice experience with this hotel.

We stay at the Laurel Inn several times a year. The neighborhood is great with a variety of shops and restaurants all in easy walking distance. Bus transportation is right across the street. The employees could not be more helpful or friendly. A nice European style buffet breakfast is offered every morning and coffee/tea is always available. We take […] our breakfast back to our room as the space in the lobby where breakfast is served is very small. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The housekeeping staff keeps the rooms very clean. Very nice small hotel away from the city center. Good self parking, fairly quiet, friendly staff. We enjoyed staying at The Laurel Inn.

Quiet part of city so nice eats close by without heavy crowds. Cookies were a nice touch.

I was only there overnight, to visit a friend who is at the UCSF hospital. This hotel is one of the more convient locations to the hospital. The room was pretty nice, well kept (202). I did not find a fridge/minibar, but there is a good-sized flat screen TV. It appears to be one of the larger rooms. It faces the street which is noisy, and I forgot to […] bring my usual ear plugs so that was my only problem. They have 2 small levels of parking. The neighborhood just north of Laurel Inn, heading towards Presidio, is very nice, a great area to walk around, and there are some good restaurants as well. (Went to Garibaldi's with friend's husband, we had a great meal there). The 2 hotel staff members I dealt with were very pleasant. Overall quite pleased however with sensitive hearing I would ask for quieter room next time (and remember to bring my foam earplugs!). Continua a leggere

There are several unusual strengths and weaknesses of this hotel I have stayed in 3 times. Strengths: kitchenette w/ microwave, refrigerator, bar table and chairs, sofa, comfy bed, next door small bite mini restaurant, free cold breakfast that is plenty. Examples of weakness where it falls short: bad stains on room carpet, old coffee bag in coffeemaker, […] not all outlets work, last visit only had handtowels, no bathtowels, iron missing or not working x2, etc. This hotel could be exceptional, but misses the mark and stays at average d/t regualr oversights such as these. We were very disappointed with this hotel. It is in a residential area not within walking distance of any sightseeing. The hotel is not air-conditioned and the first room we were given was very hot. They moved us to a better room but it was still pretty average. When we complained the front desk clerk talked to the manager (who didn't come out) and […] basically said we were stuck. We had a second front desk person arrive who did her best to accommodate us (moved our room and didn't charge us for parking). I would have a very hard time recommending this hotel. Affordable choice if you want to be away from hustle and bustle. Walking distance to Presidio and Golden Gate Park, 15 minutes off H-101, parking on-site $20/day. Recommend you take Kitchenette or City View, as Presidio rooms face the California Street busline and it is noisy, and there is a slight pet odor. Overall good hotel.

reasonable rates, located on a major cross street easily located on maps, making it easy to make your way to any destination.

Hotel is very nice with spacious rooms. No frills lobby could stand updating. AM continental breakfast is very nice. Small kitchenette makes prolonged stays more enjoyable. Adjacent pub with novel 60's theme very nice for PM relaxation. Worth its price when considering breakfast and Pub benefits.

The hotel is in a great location - it's conveniently located near Pacific Heights and all the area has to offer. It's an easy walk to restaurants and cafes. It was super nice to be able to park our car (for $20) and just leave it there, then explore the city on foot. Because of its location (on California & Presidio), it does get a bit noisy. Thankfully […] the hotel provided fans which helped with the noise level. Overall, we liked the hotel and would definitely stay here again if we visit San Francisco in the near future. We traveled to the hotel for a family event. The location for the event was perfect. The neighborhood was pleasant, and mass transit if needed was right out the door. The rooms are a little dated, but very large and functional. Our room included a kitchenette, which we did not take advantage of. If you drive to San Francisco, the hotel does have very […] conveinent parking for $20 per day below the hotel. The did have a bagel and toast breakfast with fruit and ceral. Hotel was nice, clean, comfortable. I was very satisfied given my expectations. The breakfast was very nice for a continental, I was impressed. I would stay here again.

This isn't a bad hotel, but shouldn't be listed as 3-star. I'd say 2 1/2. It looks like someone took an old Motel 6 and updated it. Room was large, but there was definitely a bit of a smell when we first entered. In the morning someone kept causing a commotion in the hallway - I'm guessing cleaning staff. The neighborhood was fun and clean. Very convenient to restaurants. I can't believe you can find such an affordable hotel with kitchenette so close to all the SF attractions. The staff was super friendly going out of their way for our requests. I would definitely stay here again!!
