The Palmer House Hilton Chicago

The Palmer House Hilton in Chicago was everything I had hoped, except for one thing: I had clearly marked that I wanted a room with at least two beds, and when I checked in they had given me a room with a king bed only. However, they did provide a roll-away at no extra charge, so I am not sure what happened in my signing up for the room with two beds […] and check-in. Otherwise, the room was beautiful and very comfortable, and was quiet with no street or hall noise whatsoever. I would definitely stay there again. Continua a leggere

This is an excellent hotel with a truly spectacular lobby and nice comfortable rooms. The staff are amazingly helpful and they allowed me to go to my room at 10 am. The hotel itself was built long ago for the the wealthy magnates that had.business in Chicago and it shows! The hotel is located close to the once swanky State Street, which has lost most […] of its upscale shops, including Carson Pirie Scott across the street.from the hotel. However, the hotel is situated close enough to the state or federal courthouse for lawyers and close to.southern Michigan Ave. and.the Art Institute. It is also near Grant Park, pretty much sitting right on the major subway lines, although the traitor OHare is a block or two away. My advice - stay here utglidning can. The only exception would be if you are on a purely shoppingtrip, in which case you.should stay up on Michigan avenue north of the Chicago river. Continua a leggere

Loved the hotel! The lobby was warm and inviting. Our room was also very nice. We enjoyed our stay and would definately go back.

AS always the Palmer House is lovely. But our check in experience was not good. A very pleasant young man was training for the job and our check in took incredibly long and though he was assisted by a trainer the whole thing became absurd. There were four of us women traveling together and we huffed and puffed and pouted as we were explained the difficultiesof […] our reservation - through hotels.com but that was not OUR problem. Elegant hotel, very convient to many good extablishments at a very reasonable price for downtown Chcago. Service for drinks in the lobby area was rather poor, after waiting for almost 30 minutes we gave up and went back to our room.

We take an annual trip to Chicago for the Christmas season and part of our trip always includes The Palmer House. We have never been disappointed with either our room or the service. All personnel are extremely pleasant and we like the location for walking and shopping on both Michigan Ave. and State Street. Got to the hotel early due to pending snow storm and was able to check in immediately! Beautiful room, beautiful hotel overall. Great bar in the beautiful lobby! Couldn't ask for more. A real jewel in a big city!!

This hotel is so great. I had been coming for years to visit the Trader Vic's in the basement, which is sadly moved now, but didn't know the rooms. I was delighted staying here recently, the rooms and lobby bar and restaurant are very beautiful. The room was almost shockingly lovely, with a very comfortable bed, and overall feel, great bathroom, very […] luxurious feeling overall. It's convenient to many restaurants in the downtown "loop" area, a little further from North Michigan Avenue area, but not too far from that either, especially in the Summer when walking is quite a nice walk. Its location is very convenient to most museums and cultural venues. Great, quick, really friendly personnel, at a Very Friendly rate which was wonderful. I was very pleased. The kids noted it was the nicest hotel they'd ever stayed in, and these kids' other parents are executives and accustomed to Westin et al, so it was nice to hear them enjoy this hotel also. We really enjoyed our stay at the Palmer House Hilton just before Christmas. The hotel is amazing, very vintage feeling inside, which gives it a lot of charm. The rooms are updated nicely (although I may have gone with something different than Art Deco), and very comfortable. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We had a night cap and dessert […] in the lobby (which were delicious) as well. The only thing I would complain about is that it costs $50 to park your car there overnight. Which, I realize, is standard for downtown hotels, but a bit much. Overall, we felt we got a great deal on an awesome hotel. Continua a leggere

I've stayed here many many times over the recent years. This time I couldn't believe the problems with the pool. The only changing room was a small Ladies room, which had a line of three families waiting. When I questiopned the hotel personnel, I was told if I wanted a locker I would have to pay for it and go to another floor to access the pool. Because […] I always use the pool I was actually mad. I absolutely love this place. The lobby is spectacular as are the ballrooms. I love the history and the spirit of the Palmer House. We loved it so much that we returned for NYE and bought our sitter a gift card so that she could enjoy the hotel as well!

This was the perfect setting for our three generation get away after Christmas. Convenient to shopping, restaurants and museums and a beautiful hotel.

I took my wife and 2 kids to Chicago for a fun holiday getaway and stayed at the Palmer House. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. We all loved the grand lobby and found the location of the hotel to be perfect...walking distance to all the must see sites.

This hotel was very nice and clean! The problem we had was we booked on hotel.com and upon our arrival was notified by the hotel staff that the room we booked (2 double beds 2 baths) was a smoking room and they did not have any of these roooms available in non-smoking. To get a non-smoking room we had to down size to a 2 double beds one bath which was […] very small and we did not receive any discount for the smaller room. Continua a leggere

Although I only spent one night at the Palmer House in Chicago, IL I felt like I was royalty. Very elegantly decorated for the Christmas season. Truly enjoyed the hictoric background. Centrally located in the downtown area which fit the needs of my stay.

This place is too old. Great location to Art Institute, but the place has a very outdated bathroom. Two to three stars max.

The Palmer House, a Chicago landmark in the Loop now deftly managed by Hilton, is opulent, elegant and convenient. The hallways are lined with framed photos of stars including Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra who performed in the hotel's Empire Room during its heyday. Our room was gorgeous and spacious, and everything was in good order. And a Starbucks […] on the ground level was a definite plus. Just steps out the door we visited the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the finest art museums in the world; Millennium Park, where we enjoyed ice skating, Piet Oudolf's Lurie Garden and the world-famous public sculpture "The Bean"; and restocked our art supplies at Dick Blick. Family friendly, the swimming pool and jacuzzi were a great way to wind down the day. And thanks to Hotels.com, we got a screamin' good deal. The hotel had a great concierge service that was incredibly helpful. No free internet without a membership to their pass though which is a little steep. Internet is free everywhere these days but not in a hotel that you pay good money for? Bag service was also key on departure day

I had a great time at the Palmer House!! The staff was very nice - even when I had l chapstick emergency at midnight!! Would highly recommend it!

The staff was great-friendly. They introduced themselves and made sure you knew their names. It is a beautiful hotel anyway, but the service made it a wonderful stay from check-in to housekeeping.

New Years Eve - the staff were amazing - there was a long line for check in and they handled it very, very nicely. Doorman was helpful in getting us a cab each day, and front desk friendly and kind

Although many of the rooms have been renovated, mine had not been, and to top it off, it was a smoking room. I was not happy with this hotel in the least. Although the location is perfect, I believe there are other hotels for the same price nearby. If you can avoid it, stay somewhere else!

They had horrible service. They treated guests like monsters during New Year's Eve. We were trying to get back to our room after a quiet night out and they needed to see our room keys, but they never told us to get two!!!!! (one for each of us). Also, waiting for elevators is a hassle.

The hotel was VERY busy as it was New Years Eve when I stayed there but, the front desk did a great job at quickly checking in guests from the ever growing line in the lobby; it was as if everyone decided to check in all at once. I was a little put off by the two choices for the Single Double Bed Rooms, there's the "traditional" or the "newer upgraded" […] version. I got stuck with a traditional room which, for the same price as the updated single double room, quality wise, was like staying in the red roof inn. As for cleanliness, aside from a little bit of previous guest toothpaste spatter on the inside lining of the shower curtain the room was pretty darn clean, no complaints really. I do however have to say that the pillows were AWFUL, I highly recommend bringing your own pillow if you can, my neck still hurts and it was 3 days ago. So you know what kind of pillows they have, well, they appear to be fluffy with good support but when you lay your head on it it practically sinks down to the bed itself and you get smothered on both sides from the sides haha... Forget two pillows, it's like you're sitting up in bed then... My boyfriend loved the pillows, I hated them, to each his own. Overall it was a good experience. I would like to stay there again, assured I get one of the nicer rooms, and checkout all the other amenities the hotel has to offer, especially the pool, hot tub and spa! :o) Continua a leggere

I am not a huge fan of high end, overpriced hotels, but I figured I would give one another chance. The Palmer House Hilton is beautiful in all of the grand rooms, but leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to space in the actual rooms, unless you get the most expensive suites.

The room was small and in need of renovation, the tv at least 20 years old, horrible and noisy A/C. I would have expected a lot more from a Hilton! Good location though.

We were very pleased with our stay. We love historic hotels and the Palmer House is a gem. The room was a little smaller than some but was very nice. The hotel employees were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very good. Parking was pricey but that's Chicago for you and the price of the room made up for it. Great stay.

Would stay again. Very nice hotel for the money.

My wife and I stayed for a couple of days and had an absolutely wonderful stay. We really appreciated the staff, facility and location.

I have always loved the Palmer House, and introducing my granddaughter to its elegance was a real treat for both of us.

I was very pleased and impressed with the Palmer House. Many times the pictures you see on the internet are a little deceiving and the place doesn't look near as nice when you get there. Not so with the Palmer House. It was one of the most beautiful hotels we've stayed in, and since we were in Chicago to see a play, it was very convenient - only about […] a block from our theater. My wife and I made reservations for our 25th anniversary and we were treated very good at the Palmer House Hilton. The front desk was very reponsive, the concierge was very helpful with restaurants and museums. For a hotel that is 130 years old, this is history and luxury. We will definitely be back.
