Enjoy NYC

"Great location; but OLD HOTEL"
It was a great location, but the rooms were from the 60's. One friend had to get another room because the bathroom ceiling had black mold all over it. I found a long, black hair in the bathroom; not mine. I was nervous about the bed, but ended up surviving. If you're up for location and so-so accomocations; this is your hotel.
"Completely disappointing"
Extremely unsatisfactory; building very old and no sense of cleanliness; I looked at my heating/ac unit and it was very dirty right inside, within sight; carpet and walls give no sense of tidiness; furniture old and worn out; paint peeled here and there, with old, rotting wood showing.
"great for times square location but it was dirty"
abit dissapointed!!! They only had 2 tellers to check in so the wait was one hour and then the room was filthy! There was a spilled ashtray on the floor next to the bed that we left for the 3 days just to see if it would ever be clened up and NO it wasn't. Then the water in the tub was green/yellow that didn't clear and the bathrooms/room itself is […] old, minimal and dirty. The only positive was the location for us. Continua a leggere
The room was dirty! Lots of maintence work needed, phone broken, hair dryer broken, carpet filthy. Had to wait in a long line to ask for a wake up call, but the line was taking to long. Will never stay there again!
"Location good for seeing sights"
Enjoyed the stay and was comfortable. Some attention should be given to the peeling paint in the rooms the dust on the shelf on the wall by the bed.
"Very central - good value"
I just returned from NYC - for a conference at the FIT. Hotel Pennsylvania is a perfect location for easy access from the Newark NJ airport, walking distance to the FIT, and with transportation at the doorstep. The check-in wait was about 20-25 minutes (2pm), and the person who served me was very efficent and courteous. Other staff (near elevators, […] safety deposit box) were less friendly and less helpful, appearing to be "annoyed" by my request for info. Older hotel with an amazing lobby, wide hallways, efficient elevators, and quite quiet despite hosting a large number of high school students at the time April 19-22). Room on 11th floor was excellent, save for the somewhat soiled looking and unhinged curtain liner and leftover suitcase scuff marks on the walls. Cleaning staff were very efficient. The breakfast (croissants, bagels, fruit , juice, tea/coffee) served in Penn Room were an ideal start to the day for me, and access to two computers there was useful. I was delighted with my stay overall, and it was only a couple of disgruntled staff in the lobby area who made it less than perfect. Continua a leggere
"perfectly located"
It was the perfect location. Very old and outdated room but still clean, and staff was very friendly.
"Great location for cheap"
The hotel is ideally situated right in the heart of Manhattan, right across from Penn Station, and the rates are quite cheap compared to anything else in the area. However, don't expect amazing rooms with tons of amenities or exceptional service for the price you pay. This place is strictly to rest your feet and get cleaned up after a long day of exploring […] a great city! Continua a leggere
New Yorkers very helpful and friendly. Location very good. Didn't like being hassled by people shoving things into my hand ever time I stepped out of hotel door. Toilet flooded in my room which I reported but wasn't fixed. Bought 6 hrs of internet usage but discovered to my cost it had to run consecutively.
"The good, the bad and the ugly"
I will start with the bad, that would be the service. The staff from check in to housekeeping were rude. The ugly, that would be the hotel. The paint is chipping and peeling off the walls, the furniture is old and outdated and the windows in our room didn't close...literally. With all those negatives out if the way i have to stay i would stay there […] again. The price was very fair considering the location was awesome. The hotel is across from Madison Square Gardens and within 4 blocks from the Empire State Bldg. we easily walked to Times Square, Soho, and even to Central Park one day. I would recomend it but just know what to expect. Continua a leggere
"Good location, poor quality accommodation"
Had a huge room with the most uncomfortable king bed I ever slept in. Room was sparsely furnished with furniture from 1960/1970. Bathroom was clean but towels were worn. Not to be revisited under any circumstances.
Would never stay here again!
"A Hotel Stay Like no Other"
Once I checked in, I noticed that there was no iron & ironing board therefore I called the front desk. After the 4th attempt, the iron & ironing board finally arrived on the 3rd day of my stay. There were cracks in the walls, the paint was peeling off and the bathroom was too small. The only good thing about my stay was that the hotel location was convenient […] (close to all must-see sights). Unfortunately I was not impressed with the service and quality of this hotel. Forgetable experience
"exciting location, but actually a motel"
Fun location, limited pet friendly, inconsistent rules
"Good location but!!!!!"
Room was grubby. The hotel is in a poor state of repair. It is a shame as the hotel is in great location. We will not stay here again.

"NYC's Hotel Flamingo"
Very convenient location super sized old hotel. The room quality is just like a $49.99 motel with spooky ghost coming out atmospheric. Completely black stained carpet, 100 times layered painted wall and never renewed furniture since Presley & Sinatra's age. Surprisingly did not have odor or yucky hair found on the floor so room made are working hard. […] Somehow there were so many French people staid same time on my visit and I remember the hotels in Paris just like this but much cheaper. Emergency Use Only! Continua a leggere
"Hotel Penn"
This hotel has got to be one of the best bargins in NYC . It has plenty of rooms, a good breakfast, right in the middle of everything. Its an older hotel, but clean.

"Birthday Trip"
Booked 5 nights in this hotel and since we had stayed b4 decided to upgrade the room to the Penn 5000. Initially we were not thrilled with our room but all it took was a trip back to reception to explain that the room we were offered was not at all what we had booked based on the website. We were then given a fantastic room which was warm, clean and […] comfortable. Fresh towels and bathroom requirements were refreshed daily. Overall we were very happy with our stay and are looking forward to our next, thanks NEW YORK Continua a leggere
"Good spot"
This was the third time my wife and I booked the Hotel Penn through Hotels.com. The location is fantastic, six blocks from Times Square and the theatre district, across the street from Madison Square Garden. the subway is also across the street. there are coutless options for food in any direction. Yes, the hotel is a little older and the rooms could […] use some upgrading (we had peeling paint in our room) but the shower, toilet and tv worked great. The bed was comfortable and the maid service was efficient. The refridgerator was convenient. I have stayed in other hotles in the city but we seem to go back to Hotel Penn for the location and price. Continua a leggere

"Seedy, tourist transient trap"
Extremely busy hotel with staff less than thrilled to help. Front desk was far from welcoming. Room was very large (huge with an adjoining room), but barren and stale like a dorm. Not a picture on the wall. Seems tourists probably take whatever is not bolted down, so they have given up on keeping rooms nice. I wouldn't stay here again.
This hotel stay was deplorable. Never again.
"Dated"
Dont book through Hotels.com for this hotel, they give you the Worst room imaginable and don't care about it 1 bit
"Terrible Service !"
50 minutes to check in, when i arrive the agent toll me that no rooms available even that i pay my in full, i ask for the manager, he never show up. I told the agent I'd call the police and would start yelling at the 60 passengers who were still on the line waitting for their rooms. the room was disgusting, bad treatment .This happened to those who paid […] in full by your room hotel.com since apparently are spatial and cheaper rates.the staff very rude and not help anyone, if you ask them something and do not bother looking in the face.the bathroom had lick in the toilet and the faucets oxidized.I've never been in a crap like this hotel. something good to say the location is excellent. "Hotel Pennsylvania"
Booked 2 rooms that were supposed to have 3 beds in each. They gave us rooms with just 2 beds and said thats all they had. i couldn't find a manager to complain to so we lived with it. Then they charged my credit card for the parking afer I paid cash.
"Centrally located"
Centrally located, once grand, now a bit threadbare, but clean, surprisingly quiet and oh, so convenient.

"Bad, bad, but still the most central of Manhattan"
Unfortunately, this is the only hotel in Manhattan being central, so convenient across the street from Penn station, always having available rooms (so huge !) with a reasonable price. If you are able to pay more, change and go for big brand hotels in the area.... But if you are there for one to 4 nights, don't want to blow up your budget and want to […] go out all the time, the hotel will provide you with a shelter. No service at all, employees are very rude, and more particularly we noticed with foreign tourists (we are not) The hotel is very old and need deep renovations, the bathrooms are from ages. it is as possible as it could be clean, but they cannot do miracles with so antics ! A lot could be improved with minimum investment, as the long line at the check in around 3 pm every day, 3 people at the desk, hundred of tourists not understanding a word, with huge luggage and the whole family in the queue....A simple labeling saying to prepare ID or passport, plus a credit card with the booking #, one person in the line for checking in the family would change the hours lost for everybody. Is it so complicated ? Also, we found the fees for a simple hand bag left in the luggage room exaggerated ! We paid for 2 small bags for the afternoon in the hotel the same elevated price as people with huge boxes and enormous suitcases for the whole day (they don't give tips because they don't know how to proceed in America). We will continue going there, just to have a bed and a room in the center of Manhattan at a reasonable price. But do we have the choice ? Continua a leggere
"Hotel Pennsylvania - location and nothing else"
Pro - extremely central, facing Penn St station and Madison Sq Garden Cons - very old hotel, hotel room can be icky for some, reception staff not friendly at all, extremely busy lobby filled with guests and the general public, very little security for hotel guests as anyone can hang around the lobby (my husband saw police chasing a man through the hotel […] lobby; there is also a "security guard" at the elevators but he hardly does anything), breakfast is an extremely poorly coordinated affair (more than 40 persons constantly squeezing into a room meant for 10 with insufficient food and coffee - on our 2nd day, we went out for b'fast), only 2 comp terminals for free internet access (a joke considering the numerous rooms in the hotel), the shower/toilet in the room is comparable to HK hotels (i.e. small) Continua a leggere

"Hotel to Avoid"
I would avoid this hotel like the plague if I were you. First, the hotel room smelled like someone had just been smoking it it (so did my friend's room) even though we ordered non-smoking rooms. We asked for new rooms; same story. Second, the hallways and interior are a disaster. They look like they haven't been touched up in 30 years. Third, the bathroom […] hadn't been renovated in 30 years either. While everything worked okay, the water pressure was crazy. It almost knocked me over the first time I got into the shower. Fourth, there is no Wi-Fi, but there is a physical Ethernet port for a fee. Last, the place is crawling with tourists. If you are a business person then stay elsewhere! Continua a leggere
"Hotel Penn - Great location for Madison Sq Gardens"
Hotel is old, but reasonably clean. It is an excellent location for anything around Madison Square Gardens. Penn station subway stop on same block as well. Restaurant in hotel was way over priced for breakfast, but found a nice diner nearby instead. I was upset, however, that I booked a room with 2 double beds through Hotels.com, but when we got there, […] they did not have any rooms with 2 double beds available. We had to stay in a room with 1 king size bed. I thought when you "reserved" a room, you "reserved" the one you asked for, not whichever one is available when you get there. Continua a leggere
