Avalon Hotel & Conference Center Erie

The location was fantastic. We were in walking distance of everything we wanted to do. The only complaint we had was there is no air conditioning. We were told by the front desk to open the windows. Since you are right in the middle of the city, it is loud, and we were unable to sleep.

Our room was over 80 degrees. We could not get the fan on. When we called the front desk they said they could try and find us a fan ifWE wanted to come down and get it. When I told the day shift when we checked out, they were not very overly concerned with the issue.

Location was great; however, there was no air conditioning in any of the rooms. You had to have the windows open; therefore, we couldn't sleep with all of the street noise. It was also raining, so the rain would come in. We called down to the front desk, and they said there wasn't anything that could be done.

The hotel rooms are in dire need of remodling and detailed cleaning. Although the staff was friendly, I would not stay there again.

if they give you the eight floor, never take it. My room had no heat, the door wouldn't lock. But the lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful, she got me a portable heater and blankets. Made reservations for 2 rooms in Oct 2011 for Fri & Sat,3/16/2012--3/17/2012. I decided to go Thurs nite...they were unable to give me 2 rooms together, not even on the same floor. Took a shower Thurs.nite water was lukewarm reported to front desk on Fri...had FREEZING COLD water on Sat.am Rooms were very hot..no air conditioning on Temp in 60'& 70's […] outside.Was told they couldn't call in a professional to look into the water problem because it was a weekend!!! Maintenence man was trying to light the boiler again.Took hours till we had hot h20.Also, one bed comforter had a very large stain on the underside...we informed housekeeping,asked for the bedding to be changed,but it was never done.Asked to speak to the hotel manager Sat.am was told he would be in at 9: 00 am,,but was still not in by 10:30 am..not available on Sunday at checkout.Left our complaint and contact number with front desk,was assured manager would contact us Monday am....never heard from him.This was our 4th time staying here for St.Patrick's Day,and by far,the worst experience we've had. The hotel stay was very satisfactory. They had a cordial and knowledgeable staff who helped with taxi and restaurant suggestions. I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in Erie.

Front Desk Girls - mildly friendly, although interrupted my check-in to answer a phone call and never asked me to hold for a minute - I ended up wandering away while she took care of another guest. Rooms - lovely and comfortable bed, everything else fairly old and falling apart. Throwing a bed skirt on so I wouldn't have to stare at the nasty mattress […] would be a start. Parking Garage - absolutely filthy. HUGE pigeons crapping all over my car (and almost my head as I exited the car). Garbage EVERYWHERE. Found multiple plastic cups of beer on the roof of my car the morning I checked out. Walls - very thin walls, lots of coughing to the left and baby crying to the right - and we had a quite which you think would dull down the noise. BIGGEST COMPLAINT - the rudeness of the staff. Approximately 45 minutes after my arrival, I was surprised by a member of the staff wishing to check my smoke detector. Frankly this is rude and imposition. Do not disturb me the minute I walk into my hotel room and relax (note: they DO NOT provide DO NOT DISTURB door hangers). I asked the gentleman to come back in five minutes. He never returned, nor did he appear to be attempting to enter any one else's room. Later that evening, the front desk girl (when questioned) advised me the situation (a monthly maintenance check) was resolved and I would not be disturbed further. She also advised the employee was in fact the General Manager. (a) Clearly a lie - the man knocking on my door was nothign more than a bell boy. (b) I find it insane that I asked teh employee to return in five minutes, and he instead waited more than that and entered my room without my presence. I'm appalled by the blatant lack of respect of my privacy and am horrified that anyone else may have to stay there. I would NEVER recommend this place. And would certainly leave my valuables at home, as apparently my room and my car are not protected in any way. Continua a leggere

Our stay at hotel avalon was for 1 night and we were going to a concert at the tullio arena. Hotel was 5 min walk to concert and surrounding bars/pubs. Staff was nice, even got pizza delivered to hotel at 1 am. All and all no compliants good stay!

Centrally located with complimentary breakfast. The bedspread and the dirts used by the previous occupants were not removed and the room altought large had dust in it. In all, the hotel is good but poorly managed.

This hotel was located in the downtown area of Erie with easy access to the mall, zoo and other sites. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and accomodating. Great place to stay for business or if traveling with family/kids.

The free breakfast was great but everything else was horrible. Room felt soooooooooo cheap and uncomfortable.

This hotel was very pleasant. I stayed 2 nights because my father had open heart surgery at Hamot. The hospital was within walking distance.

The staff is nice, has the best location in Erie, the breakfast is okay. They have two kind of rooms, the one´s that have been rebuild and the old ones. The new ones are very good, but the old ones are ok. Between the price and cost is a good choice.

The staff was very courteous and helpful. What would make this a much more appealing place to stay would be a few upgrades. Queen size beds as opposed to doubles plus small hotel size refridgerators would make this hotel much more appealing. Right now the price is nice and although it's not the best place to stay, it's central location to hot spots […] in Erie gives it an advantage. Parking, although free could be an issue since it is limited and on a first come, first serve basis. Overall, not bad for the price. Continua a leggere

Nice hotel in downtown Erie. Our room was recently renovated and very nice and comfortable. Hotel staff was extremely nice and helpful.

It's a pretty great location if you are in Erie, PA and planning on enjoying the nightlife that State street has to offer. However, my shower was clogged, the room wasn't as clean as I had hoped (meaning I could tell you the hair color of the previous guest...eww) and you should consider yourself lucky if you could find the hidden ice machine/vending […] machines. Location is very central, but not the place to walk around at night. Great during the day. Old hotel being upgraded a bit at a time. Large room, very clean and comfortable. not fancy. parking lot in the basement is very adequate; breakfast is spare in choices but plenty in quantity.

I recently stayed 3 nights at Hotel Avalon in Erie and overall it was just OK. The employees were friendly and professional, but poorly managed. There was only one person staffed at the front desk during peak check-in hours, and the cleaning staff was inconsistent and inconvenient with their timing. The first day, they came to the door at 4:00, the […] next at 9 AM. One woman barged in the room to give us a microwave, which we didn't need, not to mention I was undressed. My family enjoyed our stay at the Hotel, we were right in the center of everything. The celebration of erie all we had to do is walk right around the corner and enjoy the fun the city had provided for the community. 2miles away from the beach and Waldemere Park right across the street from the theatre. I was pleased with everything in the hotel except for the ampunt of spiders and spider webs in the room. The person I was with has a fear of spiders and I had to kill about 6 over the few hours of the two days I was there.

Nice location. Close to alot of attractions

The hotel didn't have a pool, jacuzzi, or continental breakfast. On top of that the website it made the hotel seem very high end for not that bad of a price. However the location and the parking area of the hotel is confusing at first if you're not used to the city driving. I also had a dirty towel and the door to the bathroom looked like it had been […] kicked in. The curtains and the color of the chair was very very sixties looking for a fancy hotel. this hotel is in the middle of renovation what is done is since the bed are comfortable the bathrooms ok but the location is not in the best part of town night life is a little creepy overall alright place for a mini vactions and a good price

A friend and I had an overnight stay in Erie and booked a stay at Avalon Hotel. Location was in the city centre which was convenient. We felt very safe in the neighborhood. Staff were extremely pleasant, professional and attentive. Room was spacious, extremely crisp and clean. Very classy decor. Bed very comfortable, crisp, clean linens. Great view […] of the city from my 7th floor room. Coffee/tea maker in room was nice. Hotel parking below the hotel (don't forget to get your ticket validated from lobby staff so you can come and go without a problem) Continental Breakfast served in the lobby was adequate. I was rather disappointed, for the cost of our stay there really were no amenities offered. The bar in the hotel was closed on a Saturday night. Big disappointment. There was no pool, they advertised a sauna and natilous room, could find no sign of either. We went through the lobby at breakfast and there was no sign of the advertised contintental breakfast. […] All in all , rather a lot of money for a bed to sleep in. Upon arriving in our room after taking the loudest elevator ride I have ever been on, we discovered there were no towels. The room had two of the smallest Queen size beds that I had ever seen. Trying to sleep was difficult as the sirens from the emergency vehicles raced down the street below our room about every 15 minutes. Great check in and info from the two lovely ladies I dealt with.Quick delivery of a coffee maker when my room was missing one.New carpets in hall.Beautiful room for breaky.

Iron didnt work, room was hot. Did not feel very safe at this hotel. No restaurant No shuttle.

ther hotel is georgous in the lobby but thats about it the beds wore horribly not comfortable and tehy were not changed it was discusting and we had to hunt down a maid in order to get towls. The people at the front desk were ok but the elevator seemed as if it was going to break down at any second, the air conditions was absolutly horrible and it made […] it worse considering we went on the hotest weekend of the month and also the rroms seemed as if somethign was wront it just just covered up my mother room had a burn mark on the bathroom door and it was jsut spray painted with the paint streeks running down the door!!!!!!!!!!!! there was soem yellow bloody dried up shop on the pillow in our room, sand in out beds and the parking made me scared for my car. The room was nice, but it doesn't have very good air conditioning. It was terribly hot out when we went & when we complained about the air conditioning they told us it was very old, and didn't work very good. I have been at this hotel before and wasn't too impressed, but this stay was wonderful. We had a room on the 7th floor, which is completely renovated and very nice. Our room was huge with a great view of the city. Beds were very comfortable, as were the pillows.

AC didn't work, advertised secure parking that didn't exist unless you hole up in your room 24 7, bar and resturant not open, price way too high for the bed and flop house!
