"Don't trust the pics!"
Used the hotel for an overnight stay. Didn't rate it highly at all after reading the deceptive descriptions on this site. Our room was clean and satisfactory, however it smelt of fresh paint and the carpet had cigarette burns in it. I can't say anything was that bad about the hotel as it was satisfactory for a nights sleep, however a bit of love and […] care to smarten the place up and some work on the staffs attitude and place may even justify the fee charged. "shocking stay"

"Clean with all basics in need of some improvement"
The hotel is partially refurbished although the finishing is not of very high standard. It was clean apart from stains on the carpet in the room (a problem with most hotel rooms of lower to medium price classes in the UK). It is not in a quiet rural location, in fact it is next to a busy road and the old non-sealing windows do nothing to keep the road […] noise out. Reception staff was not very helpful bordering on incompetent; I had to wait for several minutes until someone appeared on reception; there was no bell to call staff either. I was also asked to pay when checking in and out despite having had paid already when booking the room. Other staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a good variety, although I was not offered any cooked options so I am not sure whether this is available to those who wish to have a cooked breakfast. Overall for the cost it was okay; to be good improvements on the reception need to be made and the quality of the finishing needs to be worked on. "Old, New, Borrowed and Blue"
This is a really difficult review to do because the Hotel is obviously going through a refurbishment and change of owners, the second in a relatively short time period. The public areas are new, fresh and contemporary including reception, bar, restaurant and function rooms. However, step off the beaten track heading for the bedrooms and they are in […] need of updating, seriously, although the bathroom had had some attention and the shower was wonderfully powerful. A couple of the staff could do with charm school, but don't be put off, most are phenominal and could not do enough to help. If you are looking for a cheap hotel, we got a great deal, well located, that you are not going to spend the whole time in your bedroom, this could well be the place. While you're here, try the Kavi Restaurant (Indian) on the same site right next to the hotel . . . . follows the same theme, looks dreadful from outside and not even open, but just step through the door, sit down and be amazed !! "Avoid at all cost"
We booked to stay at this hotel for 2 nights and left after 1, the photos on the web site are very deceptive it looks clean and modern in them but this is far from the reality. Reception staff were surly and unhelpful, check in was at 14.00, we arrived at 13.50 and were made to wait 10 minutes because "check in isnt until 14.00" Our room was dirty, […] carpet covered in stains, light fittings hanging out of ceiling in bathroom, damp running down wall in bathroom and generally very run down. In addition it was very noisy there seemed to be gangs of drunks running around shouting until after 03.00, i went down to reception at 01.30 to see if there was anything they could do and the reception area was deserted with no way to contact anyone for assitance. We didnt get much sleep so checked out a day early, the receptionist seemed totally uninterested as to why. Please see my photo's. Incidentally expedai photos show this hotel as being a Ramada but it is not on their web site so i assume they have cut their losses and let it go. "I dire need of professional maintenance"
On the face of it the decor of the property seems very pleasant, however on closer inspection, you'll realise that all the maintenance seems to have been done on a budget and DIY. "Worst hotel ever stayed in and the least clean"
Very untidy and i real need of an update. Do not trust the photos on the website as nothing like reality. Poor service from booking in to booking out. Did see two hoovers on site, I would question when they were last used. We stayed over night the night before a trip to Alton Towers; the hotel was easy to find & very conveniently located. The hotel was excellent value for money, the room was beautiful, very clean & pleasant, attractive decor, and the bed was so comfortable! The staff were helpful & polite. A poorly maintained hotel, with poor customer service, but with potential. I get the impression that the property was so much better in the past but standards have slipped over the years, by the owners penny pinching ways. The locks on the rooms are hit and miss, sometimes working other times not. The reception staff have no personality and seem to […] struggle with correct billing first time. No one seems rushed not help, in the event of a problem. The property is dated and in need of some basic professional maintenance. Much of the DIY repairs around the property seem to be just that, and could do with the hand of a professional tradesman. On the plus side the beds are comfortable. "A disapointing hotel."
We were given a room which looked nice, but when we returned in the evening we found there was a bright light just outside which shined right into the room and the curtains did not block it out. My partner needs a dark room to sleep in. So we contacted reception and a man came up - he said he would see if the light could be switched off, otherwise they […] would give us another room. We waited well over half an hour, nothing happened so I rang reception again. I was told they couldn't switch the light off and they agreed to give us another room. We waited well over half an hour again then phoned reception again. Eventually someone came and took us to another room. This was a tatty room - one window wouldn't open - there was a notice to say this, The window frames were dirty. There was grouting missing from some of the tiles in the bathroom. The shower was 'ok' but needed descalling. The floor boards creeked, so that when I got up to the loo in the night my partner was woken up. First impressions of the entrance were good, but further in there was a cracked floor tile which had sunken down - I thought this could have been a trip hazard. The carpets were a bit 'tired' and the room carpets had stains. If the TV Hotel Inspector came to this hotel I think there would be a lot of changes to make! "Distinctly Average"
Not a particularly great hotel. They seem to have a problem with the room door keys. Spent 10 mins locked out of the room, on two occasions. As did another guest (Who I found complaining at reception about the same issue). Room dirty. what appeared to be spit on the wall! Nice hotel, appearances can be deceptive so don't judge from the exterior. Finish is very nice inside. Lovely room with brilliant storage and plenty of space. Ensuite was lovely. Very comfy bed. Only downside is that the walls are very thin and could hear other guests entering and exiting their rooms, people moving in the corridor, and a lot of noise […] from a function. "Very poor service"
Stayed here one night for a friend's 21st and was given a double room which was like a sauna! The TV did not work and the bathroom smelt like a sewer. I complained to Reception who moved us to another room only to be greeted with another sewage smell! During the night upstairs guests had a shower and was leaking through our bathroom ceiling at about […] 2am. I called reception again to explain the roof had a gaping hole and looked like the ceiling was going to come through and a lady told me from reception it was fine and she was aware of it! Kept us up all night with the constant dripping and fear of the roof caving in. At about 5am the radiator then came on but must have had an airlock somewhere as it sounded like someone was hitting it with a spanner - so loud next doors guests knocked on our door to ask us to keep the banging down! On checking out I told the girl on reception I had slept in some dives but this took the biscuit and she replied with 'A lot of our guests are saying that recently!' "Only at most a 2 Star"
The rooms were very hot and even with the window open as far as it would go it did not cool down.The carpet was stained and the room felt grubby. There were only about 6 channels on the TV which was meant to be freeview. The restaurant area had been used for a functuioin in the afternoon and when we went in for dinner the tables were not properly set […] up and the young man who waited on our table spent the whole time apologising. Also there was a lot of noise in the night from staff leaving the next door restaurant which I believe is owned by the hotel. They were talking loudly and banging doors at about 2am. There also seemed to be one person who I think was linked to the hotel/restaurant using the car park as the start for a drag race as they were revving their car up with no consideration for the guests. "just awful"
We were moved to two different rooms and then put above the ballroom with a toddler and there was a function on with music blasting til after midnight, then woken up by terrible creaking floor boards in our room when my partner went to the toilet through the night, then to top it all off we received 6/7 phone calls from other rooms from 630am waking […] us all up including our 3 year old, this was all after a 6am start the previous day, 3hour journey to alton towers, a full day in the theme park then a 40 minute drive to the hotel that was supposed to only be 12 miles away, after complaining to the hotel and the promise of a call back i agreed to pay the room service (£22 for 3 sandwiches and chips) but we never received the phone call, so a major complaint has now gone in, this hotel serves under the name of Ramada group and it puts them to shame, i work in the travel industry and have visited many a hotel in my time but this is by far the worst, not even a duty manager on when other staff are there is disgraceful, on a plus side i have to say the receptionist Harriet was very sincere and helpful and maybe she should be in a managerial position intead of those who dont deal with complaints correctly, Continua a leggereRecensioni obiettive Hotels.com
"Ramada Newcastle"
Service was excellent. There was a problem getting hot water to the room, so we were moved to a comparable room down the hall. Someone from the staff came up to help us move and make sure everything was okay with the room. The building is old, but fairly clean. The carpets really needed to be vacuumed. One problem was there was not lift in the hotel and I was on crutches making it very difficult to go up stairs - I actually had to sit on the stairs and go up that way! "Lacks the finishing touches"
My second stay at this hotel. Whilst generally clean and comfortable, the hotel just lacks the finishing touches you would expect from a three star. On the face of things, everything seems fine and pleasant, but on closer inspection there seems to be some complacency. The housekeeping, is very average, with limescale in the bathrooms, and sparse consumables. […] I actually ran out of loo roll, and there was no spare. The maintenance of the site is lack lustre. Carpet is worn, and tired, as is some of the furniture. the more visible areas seem to be prioritised, areas such as reception and the landscaping to the front, are well presented. The customer service is as expected, good. However once beyond reception the customer service falls short. Staff seem disinterested in residents, and look fed up or harassed. Would I stay again? Booked three months in advance and had requested a twin bedded room only to be given a "family" room with one double and one single bed ! When we questioned this with the reception we were told "you asked for two beds and you have two beds" !?! Sorry, but this is not good customer relation building. "Why do Pillows have to be so poor?"
When staying in a hotel a good night sleep is really what is called for.. So why do hotels insist on using such poor pillows? The one's here were as bad as we have seen anywhere ... Other than that the bed was comfortable .. but I'd expect more from a brand like Ramada. Also, the part of the hotel we stayed in was old. No double glazing, no extractor […] in bathroom, stained carpets and the room wasn't really that big. Should have known when the door hit the bed when you opened it! But have stayed in worse. First stay at this Ramada, despite having used many more in the chain in various other locations. The hotel is reasonable value, but the property is starting to show it's age and needs some maintenance and updating. "Very smart rooms, especially for the price"
The hotel is very smartly decorated. Rooms are a good size, bathroom is also large. Hotel was quite as road was screened by trees. Very clean throughtout, no problems at all. Would definatly stay again if visiting Alton Towers, even though it is slightly further than stated! Also recommend noahs ark restaurant in the local area (5 mins drive towards […] Stoke). "Dissapointing for Ramada"
I booked this hotel because I was having trouble finding a good hotel in the Stoke area. When I found this Ramada hotel, I noticed that it was a little bit further afield than I would have like but I placed my trust in the Ramada brand and went ahead with the booking on the assumption that I was sacrificing a little bit of convenience for a higher quality […] hotel. How wrong I was!!! The hotel was in a sorry state of repair and felt more like a dilapidated old folks home that a clean, modern hotel. The decor was like being in a 70's timewarp, the carpets were stained, the windows rattled, the floor creaked and you could hear every movement coming from the rooms around. There was disabled parking which was ironic since there was no lift to the bedrooms (or if there was, the staff did not offer to show me and my disabled partner where it was.) Overall a very disappointing experience, the only plus point being that it was relatively cheap and we were only spending a total of 6 hours in the room! When i went to this hotel, i was slighltly put off by the previous not so great review. But now that i've made my own judgement, i feel that review was a little harsh. It took us 30 minutes to get there from Alton Towers, and when we got there we grabbed our key, went to the lovely bar, and then spent the rest of the eveninn in the room. We booked for 3 adults, when we arrived we only had a double room booked. We were informed that they had no other rooms available except singles but when the manager came we got given a triple room. When we got to the room, the single bed just had an itchy blanket on it so we asked reception for a quilt. We seemed to be on the phone to reception the […] whole night, for tea, towels and a fan. The room was so hot we needed at fan, there was no way anyone could have slept in the temperature of the room. The room was clean and tidy and in a good location for Alton Towers. We did not each breakfast as it was far too expensive. The only dinner restaurant on site was an Indian restaurant and as I do not eat Indian food, it was no good for us. "Distinctly Average"
We stayed at the Ramada Newcastle Under Lyme on a recent trip to Alton Towers. The hotel was about a 45 min drive from the park, which was fine with us, but as we drove up we were quite surprised by the outside of the buildings, which appeared to be University residences that had been converted into a hotel. The outside was quite dingy and had obviously […] never received so much as a coat of paint. They have obviously refurbished the inside of the buildings and it was quite nice, but our room was only average. The carpet in our room was hideous and there were a few tiles missing in the bathroom. The staff were very friendly but the bar was almost never staffed and there was no one to serve us in the restaurant. All in all I would say that it was fine for the money we paid but was nothing special. I wouldn't go back again but we had a clean room to stay in for the night, which was all we were really concerned with. I would say it was distinctly average.
