The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego San Diego

Ottimo albergo, a 5 minuti a piedi dalla marina/centro conferenze e a 10 minuti dal porto. Essendo su una strada interna e' anche molto silenzioso. Uscendo a destra a 20 metri c'e' il centro commerciale Horton Plaza compreso il cambiavalute (l'unico di San Diego, credo, a parte quello dell'aeroporto). L'albergo ha anche una piscina e un bar/ristorante […] dove si puo' fare colazione, pranzo e cena a prezzi piu' che accettabili, e una caffetteria aperta fino alle 13:30. Intorno ci sono negozi, bar e ristoranti di ogni tipo, e anche un supermercato (Ralph's) all'isolato accanto. Il personale e' cortesissimo, le camere tenute pulitissime. I enjoyed my stay very much and would stay there again. The hotel is being renovated, so the lobby and elevator lobby was not very attractive, but the room was very nice, and I had a nice view. I had a problem with a windowshade, and when I called someone came up immediately and fixed it.

Would you like to sit in my bar sir? Pay money. Would you like a view of the city? Pay money. LA pretension.Hotel was in the middle of constriction as well as attached to a mall. To top of my not so wonderful experience, a labor strike was staged outside my window at 6am. Not worth the discounted price.

Great hotel. Will definitely stay here again. Room service was actually quite good - tasty burger and fries and salad with balsamic vinegar is my fav. A couple of comments: 1) there is ongoing construction out front which is a bit of a nuisance, 2) there was also planned labor protest on April 21, 2012 in the AM (the staff was proactive and offered […] earplugs to guests) but am not sure if this occurs routinely at the hotel. I've stayed at many hotels through out the Gaslamp District and this by far my least favorite. The hotel is under construction so there was a lot of noise and disruption. There was no warning ahead of time regarding construction. I also had an issue with my booking and I was not happy with the way it was handled. As reported in many reviews the hotel is under renovation but because of this we got a very good nightly rate. The hotel is in a great location and we walked to everything including a Padres game, shopping and meals in the gas lamp.

Very nice hotel. Very clean; in the middle of downtown so lots to do and see and eat and drink close by. I stayed here by myself with my 1-year old and they were very good about bringing me a crib, though it did take a little longer than desired, which wasn't much anyway, but when you have a crying baby who wants to go to sleep your time seems to weigh […] more on you. But it was a very acceptable amount of time anyway. The service and attitude of everyone I encountered was super positive, from front desk, to the concierge, to the maids, restaurant staff, everyone truly seemed to be enjoying their jobs and their interaction with guests. The one complaint I had in this area was the lady in charge of the coffee bar in the morning. She really didn't seem to want to be there and was quite standoff-ish. Also, know that this hotel is under construction and though there was only one issue I had in reference to this (some hammering around 9am from a room nearby), it should be something to consider, especially since I didn't see a notice anywhere on the site when I made my reservation. From the check in which was quick and friendly, to the most comfortable bed, i knew our stay would be great. The concierge was most helpful in finding directions and special resteraunts to dine. This hotel is currently under construction so I would not recommend staying here until the work is completed. Construction noise very early each morning and one morning a group of disgruntled employees picketed at the hotel entrance using bullhorns. Location is excellent. Very close to restaurants, shopping and entertainment. It would be nice if hotel […] provided airport shuttle and shuttles to major attractions such as San Diego Zoo and Sea World. when I first checked in I asked the clerk that assisted me that I wanted privacy in my room (no information to be provided about my stay to anyone that called in or calls be routed to my room) the clerk said that he would be making a note on my account and not to worry a thing as information would not be share to anyone or calls be routed to my room. […] however, that didn't happened as people were able to call in and inqjuire about my stay and also routed these calls to my room without my authorization. when I checked out I requested a receipt for my stay as I needed to expense this trip, I also also informed the lady about my poor experience with the no privacy issue. She apologized and said that unsure as to why the privavy noticed was not listed on on my account when I first checked in and she was unable to see who assisted me in order to address. we finished our conversation but she never provided me with my receipt. now i will have to call the hotel again to be able to obtain a copy of my receipt. We visit San Diego often enough to know that when we are doing things such as bar hopping in Gaslamp or catching a evening game,that it makes more sense for us to grab a hotel. This past weekend we were there for opening week w the Padres hosting the Dodgers on Friday night.The hotels location is ideal for all things Downtown/Horton Plaza/Gaslamp associated.Parking […] is as expected,pricey,but the hotel parking offers the convenience of driveup and dropoff service which is worth the extra money.A cab ride to the stadium was under $10 as was the the ride home from the Gaslamp Quarter. Our room was well cleaned & the decor modern & chic.The beds were outstanding & the view of Broadway circle & Horton Plaze couldn't be beat. BUT, the bad timing part came into play Saturday morning @ 7:30am when a labor dispute caused a organized protest with drums & bullhorns immediately discomforting us & allowing no sleep. The protest continued for an hour then returned just minutes later. The sound rendered sleep impossible. Management was aware of the situation & did comp our parking which was respectful considering there was no way for them to stop the protest. All in all, for the price,the area,& the convenience,crossed w the luxury that Westin Hotels offers,I would recomend there property to just about anyone. Continua a leggere

Great location. People who complain about parking should just park in the mall RIGHT next door for 10 dollars overnight. People who work there are always smiling and friendly. Brought my dog who was able to stay there free of charge (WIN!). I was only annoyed by tiny things such as there being no bubble bath available (Conceirge told me to go to CVS..aren't […] they supposed to offer to go get it?) and them not calling back for room service requests for awhile. Hot water well during our three night stay at Westin Horton Plaza. Called twice and on the second night a maintenance person came up and the hot water was working. That night I bathed late at night and the hot water went off after a minute into the bath. Every night of our three night stay the hot water did not stay on during our baths. My room was nice and comfy but the hotel common spaces and elevators were loud, croweded and dirty but it's because of renovations-- I assume once this hotel's construction is done it will be lovely.

We booked the hotel to be close to the Convention centre and it did the job for us at a great rate and superb service. One thing they should improve is the Internet service in the lobby and business centre: charging ~4$ per 20 min is exaggerated! A computer in a 4 star hotel should be available free of charge. very unhappy with the fact that we were without hot water for 2 full days and on and off the 3rd day. hotel under construction with many issues- wish we'd know before booking!

I was a little nervous booking our stay here due to the other negative reviews about the construction underway at the hotel. However, we hardly even noticed the construction during our stay. The customer service was amazing from the moment we pulled into the driveway (which yes may take a time or two around the block to find due to construction at the […] main entrance), the lobby was gorgeous and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect for us as we were celebrating a bachelorette party and could walk easily to all of the shops, bars, etc. in the Gaslamp. My only negative comment was that we asked for rooms with double beds and the beds were SUPER small---so if you are planning to share a bed with someone, make sure you know them really well! Arrived only to find out that our booking for 3 beds (2 queens+rollaway) was not available even though It had been requested in the initial booking. Only option offered was to take a second room at the normal rate, no discount. Staff seemed unconcerned about our problem. Even the Conciege wasn't very interested in my request on getting to Sea World. […] His response was, "get a cab from outside the hotel" The Buffet breakfast was "very ordinary" and not worth the cost. You will do better at the "Broken Yolk" a couple of blocks away, it was great ! Overall, would not recomend, unless you are there for a conference. The renovation is much needed and I hope will include the rooms that are outdated and uncomfortable, including a water temp in the sink that could not be regulated to any temp other than very cold or scalding hot. The staff was seemingly oblivious to the inconvenience and did nothing service-wise to compensate. That says bad management to me. The location […] is great but the so-called bay view was a joke. Entire hotel under massive construction...did not know this prior to check-in...would not have stayed...no bar no restaurant...lobby and elevators messed up...etc...I will try again in 6-months.

At the time I visited they were remodeling the lobby area. The elevators were limited to 2 and one of them was not working quite properly. I think once the remodeling is finished it will be pretty nice.

Remodeling lobby, so it was somewhat of a mess. Our room had 2 beds, double beds, not Queen, only big enough for one person per bed. Our room would not cool below 70-72 degrees, at least that is what the thermostat said, hallways were much cooler, walking into room felt warm always. My daughter and myself were traveling on a college tour trip. We were extremely disappointed with the beds in this hotel. Even if we overlooked all the construction and noise in the entrance of the hotel as well as chaos, sleep was no escape. The stay was good, but please be ready to pay for the parking 32$/night and 15$ internet...no breakfast is included and its overly priced...but everything in SD downtown is expensive...so not sure should i complain or not...

I must admit prior to booking at the Westin Gaslamp I read all the reviews on the hotel. I was somewhat concerned about the comments around the noise pertaining to the construction in the lobby. Fortunately I was not disturbed at all by the construction. In fact, the new entrance/lobby opened to the public on my first full day - Sunday Feb. 19. There […] is still construction occurring between the new lobby and the elevators. I have no idea when this will be complete, however, as I have stated I was not inconvenienced at all. I was on the 16th floor with a Bay view room with a king size bed. The room was comfortable and clean. My compliments to the cleaning staff. I'd also like to acknowledge the concierge staff whom were most helpful and knowledgeable whenever I sought their advice. In fact the folks at the 'front desks' were most courteous and helpful whenever I had occassion to deal with any of them. I used the gym most mornings and I found the equipment to be in good order. I'm not sure if the restaurant is open during the construction, however, there is a supermarket just south of the hotel - Ralph's - just mention that you are an out of town visitor and they will use a 'guest' Ralph's card at checkout to save you some money. There are many places nearby to purchase food. I recommend Pannera's for breakfast - just walk out the door and across the hotel driveway. The hotel is well situated and I enjoyed my seven day stay. Just a note to other international visitors there is no duty free shop at San Diego airport so plan accordingly. I wish I had checked into this prior to heading to the airport. Continua a leggere

Major renovations under way in the lobby and hotel entrance. Amenities were very limited. Lots of construction noise.

Hotel is nice once you figure out how to get there and where to park. They are doing remodeling to the hotel which you won't know until you get there. The first day we arrived we were told that they didn't have a dinning room or bar at this time due to remodeling. On the second day I saw a sign saying they did have a dining room. That dining room was […] a temporary room with a few tables and a limited menu. They also have a walk up grab and go breakfast bar in the lobby. We had 2 rooms on the 6th floor. Rooms are clean and very nice though one of our two rooms faced a building that I'm sure the occupants could look into our room so we had to keep the shades down to dress. The other room had a faulty coffee maker and light that didn't work. Rooms were quiet but I have to say that the pillows were way to soft for me. Bed was comfy otherwise. Shower was good. Mirror in the bathroom was bright and nice for applying makeup. There are no dressers in the rooms so no drawers to put clothes in except for 3 very small drawers in the closet. Though our other room had no drawers at all. We didn't try out the pool so nothing to say about that. They did have 4 elevators that were pretty fast for the most part except on the last day when we waited for one to arrive and it took so long we had to take the stairs down 6 floors. We met others on their way down who were also frustrated. Now get this, there was no way to take the stairs back into the hotel. The stairs exit went outside! And then you had to walk around if you were doing into the looby. Like everything in San Diego, parking is terrible. There was a parking garage next to the Westin and it was reasonably priced but you certainly couldn't come and go as they would charge you again and it seemed a bit confussing to get around in the garage. There were two elevators in the hotel that were marked as elevators to the garage however when we tried to take it we were told it was only for employees. The hotel is not new. If you need a modern look, move on. That being said, I enjoyed the comfort of the bed and the arm chair that was in the room. The staff are professional and helpful. I was impressed with the entire desk staff who live the old adage: the customer is always right. I would go back to this hotel.

Great and cheaper alternative to the hotels closer to the conference center.

My group of 4 stayed here for New Years 2012, and I was very pleased with the room and stay. The double bed rooms was spacious. The beds were comfy and the pillows were, for some reason, super soft and heavenly (I wanted to take one home). The location is great--walking distance to Extraordinary Desserts (which is a must go, if in SD). Cab ride to downtown […] gaslamp was easy, and we even got a ride back on a bicycle trolley, which was fun. I would recommend this hotel to others. We chose the Westin for the convenience of its location and for their "heavenly beds." However, we were extremely disappointed with the room's "eco" climate control. We like the rooms to feel cool. The climate control allows one to set the temp to 65, but the room never gets cooler than 70 (per the display, although it actually felt warmer than 70). […] Westin had engineering check our room out twice (since we stayed for 2 nights) and said nothing was wrong. They speculated that it was due to the eco system. If you are one to prefer a more robust A/C in a hotel room, then this is NOT the place to stay at. Also, the lobby construction was inconvenient since we had to take an alternate route to the valet parking (it's a pain to do in downtown). We were on the 16th floor, so the construction noise didn't bother us too much. Still, we didn't like staying at a hotel that was undergoing construction, and I'd imagine staying on any of the lower floors would have been worse. Perhaps the stay would be more enjoyable after the construction is finished, but the room's weak A/C system is a dealbreaker for me. Continua a leggere
