"Digusting Hotel Don't Go!!"
The room was filthy. The gentleman working was very nice but he couldn't do anything but give us a sheet to put on top of the spread and a blanket to put on top. The bedsheets has hairs in it, bathroom had whiskers in the sink and a broken womens polished nail on the floor, disgusting!! I can't say enough about how everything was dirty, we travel a […] lot and expected a decent night from a Howard Johnsons in a historic area, wrong. This hotel was completely filthy. The carpet had strange white stains on it, which we covered with our comforters so we could walk on the floor. The shower was so dangerous and gross. Apparently whoever installed the shower left a huge air bubble under the basin of the shower where you stand. So when I first stepped into the shower I almost fell because […] I wasn't expecting the basin of my shower to be soft and move. The facility was old and a bit run down and had only a tiny sink in the bathroom with no counter space, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable. Charming motel setting in great location with a trolley stop in the parking lot at the historical tree. Fountain of Youth park and Old Jail are an easy walk. Not sure why this hotel has 3+ stars overall. Maybe we just got unlucky and got a poor room. The room was dirty, outdated, and the bathroom in horrible condition. The tub was clogged and would take 15+ minutes to drain. The location is great as it's within walking distance of just about everything in historic downtown st. augustine. There's a liquor […] store next door which is also convenient. The hotel itself though is ridiculously over priced and I would most certainly not recommend it to anyone! The room was very outdated and smelled stale. The tiled floor was dirty and felt sticky. The room was not setup for the number of people in that there were not enough towels in the room. Booked & pre-paid online (3 rooms), for pet friendly facility. Upon arrival, at end of checkin, informed by front desk they no longer accept pets. I argued that I prepaid for pet friendly, and had just driven hundreds of miles, and family was almost there from over 1200 miles away. End result, we stayed, paid extra $$ for rooms. "History At Its Best..."
The first night we arrived, we had some issues with the neighboring guests smoking and called the front office! Within minutes, we were placed in an upgraded room and loved it! Staff made every effort to make our stay a great one! The breakfast was very good and had many options. "Very good and affordable."
This is not the best hotel in St Augustine, and not the worst. It is excellent for the traveller who wants a decent lodging without overpaying. The room is ok, but needs better cleaning. The faucet is in working condition but needs to be replaced. Breakfast was plenty and varied; not just coffee and toast/pastries. Free parking a plus. Would stay there […] again.
